Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Frees for per game: 22 (equal 7th)
Frees against: 20.7 (equal 12th)
Differential: +1.3 (7th)

Most free kicks for: Max Gawn (21, equal seventh) 2017: Jack Viney (28, equal 41st)
Most free kicks against: James Harmes (17, equal 12th) 2017: Clayton Oliver (40, equal ninth)

Three free kick facts:
1. Melbourne has been pinged the most of any team in the competition for throwing the ball, with that stat accounting for 6.4 per cent of their total free kick count.
2. The Demons also lead the League for centre bounce infringements (0.6 per cent).
3. Melbourne has won the most free kicks for holding the man in the AFL (24.8 per cent). - Ben Guthrie

0.6% of what? If we "lead" that particular category then it can't mean 0.6% of all centre bounce infringements. It might be obvious to others, but I genuinely have no idea what this number means. Any ideas?

This makes no sense, 21 free kicks for is equal seventh  - 28 free kicks for is equal 41st?

Viney stat is 2017, Gawn 2018 I assume

Does it mean that 0.6% of our infringements are centre bounce infringements and that's the highest out of all the teams?

Yeah, but they were totes on board the bulldog train in 2016... nothing to see here at all, game after game after game...

Ahh. That would make sense (or not, given that the percentage of our own total infringements is relatively meaningless as a measure being compared with other teams. It's the absolute number, rather than the proportion, that might be vaguely interesting or relevant.)

I was pleasantly surprised with how well we did with the umpires against Adelaide.  I actually remember thinking a few times as I watched the game that we had given away a free kick, but no whistle, play on.  Also got a fair few fairly soft free kicks in favour of Hogan and Lever that I'm not sure we would have got in the past.

As much as we made the running in many ways and should probably have an amount more free kicks as a result, I actually think that umpires are more likely to favour the better side, even in an unintentional, subconscious way.  Hopefully a good sign for things to come.

Agreed, we see it every game, almost. Clarrie is too quick for the myoptic umpires. Shame they do not watch the replays just to learn how quick his handball disposals actually have been. Turning a blind eye will not slow him down ...

We got heaps more frees. It was like Melbourne had been flung into a parallel universe.

I would normally say "don't hold your breath", but now "don't bank on it" and i definitely wouldn't say "don't put your balls on it"

No surprises here:

From 31 games in his past two seasons, Joel Selwood has received 49 head-high free kicks – 23 more than the next highest, Brisbane's Rhys Mathieson.

Selwood (95) and Patrick Dangerfield (88) top the league for free kicks for in that time.

These guys have the umpires totally conned.

Mathieson is an embarrassment to have so many such frees as he has not played every game.  The kid learnt some bad habits copying his hero local J Selwood and now can't get a game.

Hayden Christianson another Selwood prodigy is a disgrace too. Cost his team a few opportunities at goal against the Swans when he went for the high free instead of the tap or handball on, and the umpire was having none of it.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
