It's a really interesting insight into where our list and players are at. I'd really expect Tyson to be in that next group and surprised he isn't. Quote

titan_uranus 25,255 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 No surprises with team selection. MFCSS says that the mass positivity, confidence and optimism around us, and the disdain with which we are talking about the Dogs, means we're setting ourselves up for a classic MFC loss this week. The Dogs still have 13 premiership players and some A-graders (Macrae is in super form). But they also have some spuds and they're just not playing very well. If we approach this game like any of the previous five, we should win by 40 points minimum. But, if we're even slightly off, who knows. 1 hour ago, deanox said: My main interest here is the emergencies. Stretch, Bugg, Pedo and Smith. I understand Pedo: he is a genuine emergency, next in line if a tall doesn't get up. Are we assuming Stretch and Bugg are named so that we can be sure Tyson and Garlett get game time? Or have they moved ahead of them in line? Agreed, that was my only thought as to the team. Tyson, Hunt and Garlett all "dropped" from the emergencies in favour of Bugg, Stretch and J Smith. Not sure what, if anything, it means. Quote

It tells me we don't have any late injuries it's also to give players a gee up to know that they are almost there than just placing Tyson , Hunt and Garlett as the emergencies all the time. Quote
What 18,810 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 (edited) Had a feeling Joel Smith would be ahead of Jayden Hunt for a half back spot , and the emergencies are a good indication of that. Don't be surprised if Smith is in our starting 18 come finals time. Fantastic player with some very strong footy attributes to go along with his elite athleticism/leap. I reckon it’s just to make it clear that those 3 need a game at casey and won’t be the carry over so the next in line were picked Quote
Nasher 33,686 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Regarding the emergencies, so long as the team is remaining unchanged, I expect all the viable choices will just continue cycle through and change every week. Not about who is “closest” per se, just meaning they minimise the disruption to the emergency players. Pedersen would be the exception as he is the only viable tall available at present until Weideman gets going at Casey. 4 1 Quote
JV7 2,375 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 (edited) I’m interested to see how Goodwin & the coaching staff aswell as the players adapt to what sides are going to throw at us. Been such a high scoring/free flowing style we have been playing with, sides are going to come up with different ways of combating that & bring different tactics. We all know the coaching staff has been criticised for no in game plan B or C so now with us on notice sides will be trying things & we’ll need to be switched onto it. BigFez 1,491 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 To me this week is our biggest test since we started winning. We were always going to be up for it last week, with the commentary around how 'we haven't played anybody yet'. This week we have supposedly 'weaker' opposition, the media hype around us is unprecedented, we are all of a sudden a genuine premiership 'threat'. Anyone who saw the first quarter last Friday night will know the dogs can still play some decent footy. I see this week as the next test of maturity. Will we expect it to happen like we did so many times last year? Or will the team keep executing the way they have been and do what they need to do against a weaker opposition? The 4 wins against the minnows should have set my mind at ease, but still have a slightly uneasy feeling around this weeks' match. Hoping we haven't gotten ahead of ourselves and we keep doing what we have been doing. 5 Quote

Lucifers Hero 40,716 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Two things to watch out for this week: 1. It was reported here a month ago that we had set our sights on the Crows game - we delivered but did we burn up too much mental energy? 2. Short recovery time - Bulldogs can move the ball very fast with their not-too-legal 'flick' passes and double handed 'scoop' passes. Will we have the physical energy to run them down? I think we will win but am not expecting it to be huge. Possibly a tougher game than we had for a while but that is not a bad thing: my MFCSS makes me nervous cruising easily thru games. 6 Quote
DeeZee 7,496 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 The boys will be fired up for Joneseys 250th, I doubt we will drop this one. Quote

I'm with you on that one. We're not going to win big every single week, but I do think we should be able to dictate the play in this one and put them away when it matters. We aren't going to kick the first 5 or win by 90 points. I'll just take another good, solid win that has us at 8-3 going in to Queen's Birthday. Quote

Melbourne went on to record a great victory over the Eagles on the following Saturday but the number of consecutive six day breaks, the injuries and a controversial suspension to Tomas Bugg in the next game against the Swans, all took their toll. Minor quibble. I don't think the suspension was at all controversial. Bugg's action that caused the suspension might have been, but not the suspension itself. Quote
Dee Zephyr 19,311 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 There’s no doubt the Doggies will be breathing fire and wanting to ruin Chunk’s 250th like we did for Enright’s 300th down the road a few years ago. Another test for the maturity of this group, teams will try to unsettle us in any way possible from here on but our play the ball attitude has been first rate the last few weeks. I see a tight first half unfolding with us eventually grounding them down in the second. Hopefully Razor Ray is as sharp as ever and doesn’t fall for the tricks of Knee Wobbles McLean. 1 Quote

Quietly added jenkins to his list of vanquished forwards (who i reckon is b grader). He needs a challenge. I bet he can't wait until he gets a crack at Buddie and Kennedy (or he might take Darling).
