Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tend to agree, Oliver is pretty special. Hopefully Charlie Spargo can climb his way up this list.

Best player or most valuable player? I think Max would have top the list as the player we cant really do without. Hes already showed us how much we missed him last year.

Clarrie closely followed by Jesse with apologies to Jack V

I hope what Clarrie, Jesse etal are achieving motivates Petracca to become the best he can be.  Petracca has the swagger and the ambition (to be in the AFL HOF - his words).  At the moment he is riding on his talent.  Has the potential to be top 3 but has work to do to be among our very best.

You will find Jack Viney is a good deal younger than Max. I have often thought Salem May be the best of the lot, but Clarrie is showing all the signs and commitment to be our best player possibly since the great Robbie Flower

Ooops  Viney    yeah ok I forgot...

Firstly, if Max Gawn is in the list so should be Jack Viney.

With those above, I see Oliver, Viney, and Hogan on par with each other. I really can't separate them. Furthermore, Weideman has shown enough glimpses, we'll see more of what he can do as he continues to mature into a man's body.

Overall, yes I agree, we have an excellent young list. I just hope our list managers don't become complacent when thinking it - I'm sure they won't, as they continue to better it every year via the draft and acquisitions of additional "stars" via trade. Additionally, club culture driven by the players and staff will be crucial for player retention, especially when convincing out of contract players to stay on less money as opposed to what may be offered elsewhere.

No idea. Just hope they all end up part of a champion group who change the whole external view of our club. Gunna be great when opposition clubs have to worry about all our players in full flight week after week after week.

If Oliver increases his kick to handball ratio to 40/60 it will be him by a mile.

Otherwise it's a close race between Petracca and Hogan with Hogan well in front at present.

Not sure why people think this way.

Oliver is the best handballer in the comp by some margin, and finds so many of his possessions in tight, and yet still manages to get the ball to a team mate in a position to clear the ball.

Not sure it would be possible to find a teammate as often, if he is kicking from inside a pack.

We  have a great budding list now with several young players who will become superstars

Of the young crop I think Oliver will be our best

What does everyone else think

Oliver already is our best player along with Gawn

look out for an injury free Gus & Viney

Clarrie for me, but our midfielders as a collective (including Hogan) have the potential to become 'household names' a la the great Brisbane midfield in the early 2000s (Voss, Black, Lappin, Power, etc)

That list has a tall forward, a tall back, a ruck, and five midfielders.

And of the midfielers, no two are alike.

I can't bring myself to speculate on any given one of them being 'the best', because I'm just so thrilled to have such a  strong group coming through, and it will be the unpredictable and dynamic unit they form that gets me jumping around.

And to think we were laughed out of town for taking Oliver over Parish.

I think Oliver will be by a nose over hogan. Hogan such a rare commodity with his size, athleticism, ability to take contested marks and hit the scoreboard. But Oliver is a freak. Both generational talents and I am stoked to have them both.

Also think brayshaw will climb everyone’s lists by the end of the year.

yeah but if he kicked as well as he handballs he could be a legend.

That is not a criticism of his level of play at present which is very good but it is a fact and this thread is about who will be the best.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
