For how long have opposition's parked one extra back? Started against Collingwood years ago. It still screws us up.

I think the list is strong enough.

That leaves selection and coaching.

Yeah yeah. It's only round one. But nothing's changed

The extra player back is a result of our decision to set up that way with our own extras back...

I know we lost but what a god damn game. Unbelievable. Max is gonna feel like **** :(

One of the most entertaining games involving Melbourne info the last decade.

We rarely lowered our eyes and went inside 50 meaningfully. Compared to Geelong who had less opportunities, but looked likely every time.

This was the difference.  We were the better team around the ground but forward entry is where we lost it.  Could have won by 5 goals.

Game plan issues aside, when the [censored] are these players going to learn every moment, every point counts.

Second quarter was shambolic. Lewis gives away 50 and a certain goal by lipping off. One of our leaders misses a gimme to win it, and so on.

We dropped so many points last year and it cost us big time, but we keep doing it.

Costly selections once again. Maynard tagging Selwood who had 37 odd touches. What a move!

Goodwin has a lot to answer for. If he doesn’t sort out this selection issues we will continue to blow opportunities.

We seemed very sluggish today and skills were poor.

Still have a long way to go.

Gawn was never going to kick that. Good fight back. Terrible we didnt curtail Selwood better and our selection of wagner was not even close to being right.

Great game. So glad that footy is back.

Ours to win and we lost it. Once again we lost control for a patch of time and couldnt change momentum. Very frustrating that we havent learnt to stop these periods.

Hannan had another shocking game. He had the new and shiny pass last year. Needs to do much more across the whole match.

Wagner proved some haters wrong. Anyone who pots him after that game has no idea.

Garlett didnt look like his lively self.

Maynard looked like a Casey player. Another slow mid is not what we need. He is 26 years old. I would much rather gift games to a younger player.

I really have to laugh at posters like @Hardtack and @Chris for looking for sacpegoats on a day like today.

We lost yet another game that was there for the taking.

Dont blame it on the disabled lol.

Still continue to do dinky little hanballs to flat footed players under pressure.

Wagner did OK in the second half.

Maynard needs to be gone

Needed Bradshaw and Tyson getting the hard ball, even if they spray it occasionally.

OMac did ok in the last half

Harmes just seemed to appear in the second half, was huge in the third.

Was the timekeeping right?

Last quarter 27 min !!??

I thought  there ‘d be at least 2 min to go after Max( I assumed) put us in front.

Only 2 goals kicked.

I thought Wagner’s third quarter was significant in our comeback.

Goal kicking practice this week me thinks!

Should have never lost that game in the last but we are Melbourne.

The whole forward set up and method of entry is shizen houzen Ox.  That puts pressure on the goal kickers when we get very few chances with set shots and mostly under the pump missing targets and/or getting nowhere near them etc.  Geelong on the other hand set up pretty well and mostly kick to the advantage of their forwards coming i50.

Gutted but not despondent.  We could've / should've won but we didn't ........ and it would have been a 'get out of jail' win if we had done so.  For much of the second quarter our defensive pressure across the ground was poor, and we will struggle to beat most decent teams if extended lapses like that are not rectified.

I was thinking at selection that Tyson and Brayshaw out might cost a little. Well that little was probably enough to get us the 4 points (if they were fit to play)

Not sure why we bothered the tag of Maynard on Selwood, he got an absolute bath.

The last half when playing catch up we still leave a player behind the pill and keep pumping it long to no one up forward leaving us outnumbered.

Roll the dice, don’t play a loose man and see how we go. We mind as well try win it!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
