So, Tom Mac didn’t report his sore toe for the last month. According to Goodwin, it’s been troubling him for a month yet he’s played AFLX and the opening JLT.

I believe he said it was sore.  I don’t think he said he didn’t report it.  I might be wrong

Trying to get a read on what the 'little niggles' are that JV refers to: "Having lost support in my foot and running differently and putting different loads through different bones, I've just got these little niggles popping up every now and then".

Question: At training is he able to side-step, pivot, lunge, sprint, zig-zag running etc etc?  Some insight would help understand what the lingering issues are.

Thanks.

Nah it was probably just a nuisance he could manage early on, but got worse, no game, rehab

I thought that, if they had a niggle of any sort, they were straight into the rehab group.  So how come T Mac had a 'nuisance' injury but didn't go in to rehab for it?  Seems strange.

Wouldn’t have a clue if T Mac reported the ailment or not. Based on the timeframe Goody spoke of, ( possibly a mix up of words) T Mac has played in two weekends of football with the issue.

Like Wiseblood stated above, it’s strange, considering we have been told many many times on here a slight niggle equals rehab.

By this stage of proceedings since recruitment, one might think that if Weideman was working well at his craft and its obligations, he might be ready now to relieve TMac for 'recovery' time from such little niggles. We do miss Vanders, as well, heh? Hope TMac is a rapid healer and can play unhindered for Round 1 and beyond.

What's the story with today's high intensity training at Casey?  It happening?  Or, did they decide to go to the Pub, instead?  We hopefully have at least one intrepid reporter on the spot...

WAIT A MINUTE. Is OLIVER injured too?

From The Age...

Melbourne are confident star onballer Clayton Oliver will be available for the season opener against Geelong despite copping a knock to the knee against St Kilda in the second game of the JLT Community Series.

Very confusing!  mfc website stopped putting up training times about a month ago!

Instead 'Training Times' on website refer to twitter for updates - a shame for those of us who aren't on twitter:rolleyes:.  Anyway, I searched thru the club's twitter feed and couldn't find one re training.  I had thought of going but not being confident where/when it was I decided not to trek to the outskirts.

According to the Age those in 'rehab' (Viney, Lewis, Jones, Oliver, ANB, TMac - who trained in runners) trained in Melbourne - assume Gosch's paddock.  The rest had a 'solid hit out' at Casey this morning.https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/knock-to-knee-restricts-clayton-oliver-but-he-s-set-for-round-one-20180316-p4z4ou.html

Somewhere I read that TMac was to prove his fitness at the Casey hitout today for round 1 selection, but given he was at Gosch's in runners I would imagine he won't be lining up vs Geelong.

This is not great we've gone from having almost a full side to Viney definitely not playing T. Mac dobtful and Oliver fitness test.

I would not worry about it 16 days after the knock is plenty of time to get over a knock to the knee, did he not play out the game anyway, it is nothing

The club has and  aiways will adverise 'open' training sessions

I attend 'closed' sessions coz I don't rely on the advertising

Assume today was a 'closed' session and I was told it was at Casey

Never known the difference between open and closed sessions, especially at Gosch's and haven't bothered asking

Late start to preseason, needs the fitness work, and touch?

I would not play him Rnd 1 anyhow. I'd give him the extra week to get it right & to get more fitness base.

We need him running from CHF and following,  we need him in the packs & in the ruck.  Lets not risk him aggravating a tender injury on his foot in Rnd 1.. give him the extra week, hopefully that will be enough.

If he makes the injury worse, he could end up be out again for 5 weeks.

Even if we lose in Rnd 1, we can keep it to a minimum, & be ready for Rnd 2.

Its a long season, and we have to go the distance, and we want to be ramping up in August, not so much in March.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
