I was speaking to a mate whose cousin is an up and comer at one of the big Melbourne based clubs and apparently many of the year 1 to 4 players are on between $150-250k, even with the new CBA. So I reckon our figures are all out of whack here. It's not as high as we'v always thought.

Base wage this year is 80k for players drafted 40+, 90k for players drafted 1-20. With $4000 match payments and $3000 bonus for ever 5 games played. So pretty much it's close to 200k if you play every game.

3rd, 4th and pretty much until a player establishes themselves are probably the hardest players to know what kind of deal they are on. Minimum is 105k with 4,300 match payment but you'd think clubs would go well above minimum for anyone who's played a few games in the first 2 years.

Salary cap is 12.5 million. Which fits with the average wage of just over 300k. Given there's a lot of depth and youth at most clubs who make less than the average I think teams can squeeze in a few big contracts ie. 750k+ and can have a lot of solid players making 400-500. I think where the media reporting and guess work goes wrong is for the players who are allegedly signing deals worth 550, 600, 700 etc. My guess is a lot of those deals are very incentive based and they work out a lot lower than reported.

The dees should send ollie an appology for not picking him over the spud doupas. He was "neelded". Who could we off load to port,ANB,Stretch,Melksham,Vince,Wagner,Kennedy Harris,Kent  etc. More Mongrel bring it on !!!!!.

Should possibly also send a letter to Rory Sloane over the debacle over pick 35 in his draft too.

Non-story imo.

I heard Tom McDonald say the same thing last contract.

But would they both be saying the same thing if they had to walk a mile in each other's shoes? I have no idea, but we should put it to the test. Straight swap seems fair.

The Ollie ship sailed by us years ago. We chose Jimmy's dingy instead.

I suspect OW was gutted by his rejection by our lowly club and it would take 2 lifetimes for him to ever look at us again, except in contempt.

Demons fans looking for a goldilocks contract outcome may be very disappointed.

In my view we need to move on, just as we had to do with Liam J.

What an exciting team we could have had, IF ONLY (those two fateful words)

And we chose Jurrah as a rookie ahead of Rockliff who we had 'promised' a spot to......

Man, we stuffed up some recruiting......

Viney, Wines, Oliver, Petracca.....        my lord, we would absolutely crush teams around the ball.  It would be a bloodbath

Coming into the 2019 season Viney and Wines will be just 24 y.o, Petracca 23 and Oliver 21. Seven years of fearsomeness to follow.

Everyone has at some point.  It's the nature of the beast.

We're the best at constantly bringing it up, though.

We couldn't offer Port anything worth while unless we dump Hogan. I accepted a while ago that Hogan was going to head home and then he went and signed a new deal, i think we should repay that loyalty and not force him out so we can get a new shiny player.

I'd also rather save cap space so we can secure the guns we got already. If Petracca and Oliver continue to develop everyone in the comp will be throwing big money at them, so we need to be prepared.

Finally, Tyson isn't an A grade midfielder, but he does work and seems commited to the club. You can't have 22 great players and i am quite happy with his contribution (Maybe he could kick a bit better) and i think he is in our best 22 everyday of the week.

Great post. Agree with every word.

We have our star in Oliver. He is going to be one of the best in the competition in the next few years, and will be offered Federal Reserve money from other clubs.

Would love to see Wines in the Red & Blue, and my god our midfield would be intimidating, but just cant see where the funds would come from.

Watch for Norf to offer 1.5m p.a over 7 years, fail to get a bite, and for Wines to re-sign with Port.

@ding What are your connections saying?

His family ( old man in particular ) hate our club for overlooking him last time we had the chance. We said we were gonna pick him but obviously didnt.

MFC are not likely to be much of a chance even if he does want to leave.

Dont have anything more than that but i do keep asking the question of my source :P

Our fault, not his i think.

Why would he have wanted his son at the MFC 2013???

He should be thanking his lucky stars that we passed on him and he has gone on to play plenty of finals football in front of huge parochial fans at a great new stadium.  Maybe he could be filthy with the Bulldogs who passed on Ollie twice and have won a flag in that time.

That's right players don't give it another thought who passed them, bulldogs had 2 chances of getting him.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
