Agree KoD.  You'd applaud that  in the men's  game.

I totally agree. IMO the talent pool isn't yet big enough to support a bunch of new teams.

Me too. The natural improvement we will see, and we need for the games to flow better, will be completely nullified by further diluting the talent.

I love watching the AFLW - comparing it to the men’s game is not comparing apples with apples.

Yes, the skill levels might not yet be up to the (full-time) men’s game but, to me, that just adds to the excitement.

Today’s game was super exciting as a Dees fan in fact the effort and heart from both teams was incredible - they were out on their feet at the end of the game.

Long may it continue!

Hi “rjay”. You sure got that one correct.

After looking forward to it, that half was frustrating to watch.

Hi 'Rob'...I think they need to let it settle a bit mate. A long ways to go.

...but it's always good to see a Demon win no matter what the competition.

Always good to see the Dees show some heart.

I can understand why some people don't see the appeal and don't appreciate the bigger picture. Luckily it's not compulsory to watch or comment.

Left the ground wondering what happened to Paxy as she's always in everything. A fair excuse not being on the ground, I guess! Missed the injury completely as didn't have the best vantage point. I thought Cunningham showed a lot and Hoare is an actual Giant.

Am a bit bemused by the lack of Mifsud. Maybe just a balance thing, but she was one of our best last season and obviously goals are gold. Having said that, much like last year I think our forwards will build as the season goes on. The Crows will come out hard next week...

This is boring. I can’t get into 4 goals in a half in perfect conditions.

Men, Women, Aliens, doesn’t matter... boring.

Yeah, other than family and friends and AFL marketing does anyone really care?? Nup!

the skill level is low, but as someone upthread said that just adds to the excitement - and there's no wy the skill level in the vfl two years in was a patch on what was on show today

Great summary DiO. Cunningham won the ball when it mattered. But wow, there's a foot on the end of her left leg she doesn't know is there yet. .

If you're not interested PF, now would be a good time to stay inside and work on your spelling. It's blancmange, not blamange.

Honestly, as good as it is to have a win I wasn't impressed with our side.  We won because we have harder ball-winners and Cranston had a big final quarter, but we were badly outplayed.  GWS had far better skills.  We only had a couple of players who could hit targets by foot while they were consistently hitting mid-range passes and maintaining possession.  Last season we played a high-possession game.  If we want to continue with that style this year the skills need to improve drastically.

The commentary at the start of the game said Mifsud was apparently concussed last week.

The Crows will be hard after getting beaten tonight at home. Another loss and they can kiss their premiership defence goodbye. Hopefully Phillips will be missing for them again next week which would balance if Paxman misses for us.

Well thanks for that Giles, in an alternate universe I spose celebrating this win in the cosmos of reality that the men's team has been very ordinary is a but a small consolation as you bask in the collective glory!

I thought there was some really good passages of play in todays game from both teams.  Daisy and Cranston did some really stand out stuff which I thought was the difference in the last quarter.

Umpiring though was generally pretty auful though.  Forget this last touch out of bounds stuff for speeding up the game, they really just need to start paying holding the ball for players sitting on the ball on the ground more often, was a real blight on what was otherwise a decient game.  There were certainly a few other dubious decisions and non decisions, but from a nonpartisan point of view, I thought the holding the ball in when on the ground took the cake of the poor umpiring.

Wtf?  How is ‘[censored]’ censored on a football site???

(The word is FLAG but replace the A with an O)

I do respect the moderators roll in aiming for some level of  decorum, but the auto censor on this site is way too sensitive for my mind.

[censored], [censored] and a few others I use in every day speach get censored. ...buy abreviating things like WTF are fine.

We are the better side, and our midfielders are miles better than theirs, but you wont win by kicking soccer scores.

Simply must find a way to the goals.

The overhead marking has been impressive, but a negative is Cranston. A wasted spot in the team. Just does not provide a contest for a girl of her size.

Daisy has been poor also.

Oops! ??

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
