We have to try to sell something that is for the public good to get the government involved. Richmond has the multi cultural centre there. My question is What could we offer on that land that would cover that reason...that isnt offered at the pies or the tiges?

Seems that in the short term Tigers made an extra $5 Million from their premiership through sale of memorabilia etc.

Of course there should be more to come in increased sponsorship and memberships.

In a way I am surprised that for a club as big as Richmond it is so little. Nice to have but it demonstrates that continued success is vital.

For the Guernsey clash people there is this little gem:

"Ironically, the canary-yellow clash strip Richmond donned in the Grand Final against Adelaide, amid heavy criticism from the likes of club legend Kevin Bartlett, has sold out and more will be available in November."

Have you tried the live beating snake heart liqueur in Vietnam? I didn't.

If it's a soulless place for the scum, I'm confused as to how it would be perfect for us.

I meant that for the pies it has no emotional connection. Certainly not in the way Vic does. Since we moved from the g we have had no home base and even then there was no social club attached.

Olympic park would give us the chance for home for the first time in decades and whilst it might take time we could give the place a demon soul. And as i say its proximity to the g means the place has more spiritual attachment for us than the pies.

My favourite bit of PJs comments was when he said that Jack Watts will always be a Melbourne person. It may not have been intended, but it was as if he was telling Port Adelaide that they'd contracted a mercenary who will never fully commit to his new club.

Gee you really got that wrong LDC. Unfair to Jack and a very inaccurate interpretation of what PJ meant.

First of all, how is Jack a mercenary?  He didn't leave for more money. You know why he left so why disparage the guy with a comment like that?

Secondly, PJ was simply saying that Jack was a great guy, who was loved at Melbourne and who loved Melbourne. After his time at Port was up he believed that Jack would consider himself a Melbourne man and get involved with the club. PJ also said that he was going to catch up with Jack when he was back in Melb soon.

More specifically with our plans this draft to take 4 picks where we started with 10, 27, 45, 63, 81

After compensation picks ...

Watts pick in 31, Balic pick out 66 ...

Trade 2nd rounder: 10, 31, 47, 84
Trade 1st rounder and get Crows 2nd back: 29, 31, 36, 47

It's actually 10 + 84 vs 29 + 36

Do you really understand this or are you just making it up?

It is actually almost the same deal as giving up a first and second round pick outright.

It also keeps us very much in the game come Draft time. Those 3 picks between 29 and 36, plus another that comes 10 picks later, could be more than handy.

Xarron, I think you've misinterpreted what I intended to say. Nevertheless, let me make clear I don't believe Jack's a mercenary and I certainly didn't intend to disparage him in any way. I was trying instead to foment some inter-club rivalry. Obviously I failed.

Didn’t Footscray make an extra $2m from their premiership merch etc.?

If Tigers did double that then it’s pretty impressive

I don't know how much WB made, but they certainly started selling out membership packages where they hadn't done so before.

They also started pouring money into marketing initiatives in an attempt to make hay while the sun was shining, but then fell down the ladder. Oops.

I was shown round our training facilities about 4 years ago and was quite impressed. [...]  However my guide being employed by the club would only speak in positive terms about the facility.

I was happy to hear  that it was being addressed at board level and will be super happy when / if we finally cross that threshold!!!

I'll believe it when I see it. I went to a function way back when Stynes was Prez, and he was talking about the need for a long-term base because AAMI was inadequate. This may have even been before we signed up for the facility we're in now! Either way, it was pretty clear the Club knew they needed better than what they were getting.

Interesting about the new HQ.

Docklands is out of the question too much a green field site.

Stake Holders ie Council and State Government has a big say in what is available.

PJ said they are looking for a CBD site close to The "G"

Now unless it is The "G" or a redeevlopment of Yarra Park to incorporate a new training, Gym and Social facility, I cant think of any CBD site close to the "G" that could handle it

I’ve often wondered about Fawkner Park?

I suppose the point I was trying to make is that given the annual turnover of the big clubs a premiership is nice from a cash viewpoint but not a panacea. Rather you need sustained success and several premierships such as Hawthorn have delivered.

Will be interested to see how Geelong's stadium deal goes from a financial viewpoint. They have a "clean" stadium so they get all the ground advertising but of course they have only about 8 games at the stadium.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
