I suppose it does show how desperate we were to get this deal done, that on the face of it we have got unders.

I hope there is no payment of Jack's future  salary by us,  or the deal just got much worse.

I am hoping it is all part of a plan for something else in the next two days..

They bent over on both trades. We're building a great reputation as a club that is more than happy to be screwed right there on the trade table.

Yeah, and last year we got royally screwed on the Hibberd and Lewis deals.

Pick 31? Mmm. It is what it is I suppose. Dees just wanted to get it done.

Maybe the Dees want to focus on other stuff b4 trade week finishes.

I will be happier if one of our picks can land Brandon Starcevich.

We have not been robbed, Lever was a good trade.

He is literally the only quality player who has been traded thus far and we landed him!

I agree that pick 31 for Watts who we invested 9 years into, is a poor outcome. But I trust the club has other plans, and to be honest I don't see the point of fighting the trade when it is clearly us who wanted him gone. Would be a super dick move to say 'go look for a new home, but oh wait we don't want to trade you where you want to go because they won't give us a good pick for you, when really you aren't that great which is why we want you gone in the first place'.

I know this is a very divisive trade that will upset a lot of people, but at the end of the day Watts has brought this on himself. We all wanted and needed him to change, and he hasn't. His talent is not lacking, but his attitude clearly is not what the club is expecting from a senior player.

It is time to move on. We got Lever, a 21 year old gun who fills a real gap on our list and pushes us closer to success, so at the end of the day we win the trade period.

Win the trade period ? How did we?

If you accept pick 31 for Jack you are as crazy as the MFC and Goodwin. Gee, this club lacks nouse. Pick 31, unknown and a lowly draft pick. Complete pig in a poke situation. Have the premiership Port. We are glad to help your cause at our expense! How do they do it? Three class players and we can only land one. They must have something enticing. Probably the location.

Just thought I'd remind you bobby of your post after I said pick 31 a straight swap for JW. All these deluded demonlanders over valuing jack watts and having no idea about the football landscape Pick 31 is fair.

Listen to the simpletons boo him next year, when in fact he loved the club and wanted to stay.

Club has no right to play the loyalty card when Trac and Co are offered big coin in 2019/20.

Like his old man said, we stuffed him and later stoned him.

Pick 31 or Watts?  Give me Watts.

You can have him. Just follow Port.

Watts had 35 inside 50's this year in 16 games.

Thats 2 inside 50's a game.

I don't think he was ranked in the top 200 players for inside 50's in 2017.

Sure, and look at how often we score when Watts is involved.

For pick 31 we were better keeping him.

Pick 31 is not good enough. They said they want in the 20's so why don't they just stick with that.

Because more than likely no one was willing to pay that! The club obviously wanted him gone, no one else was interested, so the best deal they could get was pick 31.

I'd say the chances of us picking up any of those players with our pick 31 this year is unlikely.

Yep completely agree.

Next, they'll offer Fremantle pick 36 for Balic.

You can bet your bottom dollar the booing will come from the Watts haters like Dr Gonzo, Petracca and Dr d. to name a few

Because Port adelaide don't have a pick in the 20's. Pretty simple.

I reckon he will say it’s fair value for both parties just like he said about the Lever deal.

Port Adelaide, a direct competitor to us in the 5-8 bracket have just brought in Rockcliff, Motlop and Watts.... for a total cost of pick 31. They've had a tremendous trade period.

Comparatively, we've brought in Lever, but have lost Watts and 2 first round picks. Paid overs and let quality go for unders. The late picks are irrelevant unless tied to a player trade as they will produce speculative kids at best. The club better package those 2nd round picks up and make something happen or we've had a poor trade period and lost further ground on our direct finals competitors.

Lord Trav

Sadly, so true. Great post and we need more than pick 31. Lets hope they have a plan. The big fella from the loins would be good!

To all those upset about receiving pick 31, what were you realistically expecting for him?

It was clear that no club was going to part with a first round pick for him, so are you disappointed we didn't get a pick earlier in the second round?

He picked Port, the earliest pick they had in the entire draft was pick 31. It is what it is.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
