Some things can't be said in public.

Nonetheless, it has been handled poorly by club, especially in terms of leveraging any value from a potential trade.

I think at some point people need to consider the other side also.

To get value you need a market place and Jack has attracked the interests of clubs looking for a fire sale and are offering trades that reflect that. MFC has always been a fair trader (perhaps even a little soft).

Reason we can't get a decent pick is because people see Jack for this strong strengths and equally strong weaknesses. Being a top bloke really doesn't count alot unless you channel that into some off field leadership that can drive the club

we have not made finals for 11 years or won a premiership in 53

one player is not going to make any difference - he's been here for 9 years and is not integral to our side

i think the football department is doing the right thing

They (sen) r saying we r getting pic 31.

Wat a joke.

Just shows how desperate Goodwin and co r to get rid of him.

Looks like we r yet AGAIN being bent over.

Why not demand he try harder to improves the things he does poorly.

This seems to be what the coaches have done, and Watts either couldnt or wouldnt bust a gut to improve. They obviously got sick to death of waiting for Watts to develop some urgency.

Good kicking should never be enough to save a player from being traded if thats essentially all they offer the team on game day.

I personally wont be tearing up when the trade is completed.

Neither will I but do you publicly criticise a player? Absolutely not - good successful cultures don’t do that. Melbourne have handled this poorly from the start. They’ve obviously come to the conclusion he’s not needed that’s not really our decision as supporters. They are the coaches... it’s interesting they haven’t been able to develop him they way they want him to train or perform. Imagine if we had a team of players who can win the ball but can’t dispose it to another player effectively. Teams are made up of players with different strengths and weaknesses..

Absolutely he's known quantity

That is - known for laziness, unwillingness to take his game to the next level, a poor influence on younger players and an all round disappointment over 9 years

I'm thrilled that our FD had the guts to make this call, and in turn sending a very strong message to the rest of our list.

Again another person focusing on the negative stuff - typical.. If you’ve head Petracca talk he comments that Watts has been a huge help to him in learning how to be resilient in dealing with constant criticism. Always two ways to look at every situation.

I feel that it reflects his value quite accurately.

In the main I agree with this.  I find it difficult to understand why the club has been so public about Jack's so-called shortcomings.  Sure, go to the trade table with him if you want to, but do it quietly behind closed doors.  Regardless of his failings, JW does not deserve such a public airing of his perceived faults.

That said, I get a sense that there is a lot more to this than we know.  But just what that may be, who knows?

Posters like yourself may be the only reason I return to this forum after this trade is complete... Let's hope sanity prevails

We'll have to disagree here because 31 has as strong possibility to turn in to nothing, with Watts we had something.

If as has been suggested we got two back and its being packaged to move back in to the first round.. well, I'll go back in to my box.

This makes the most sense, totally agree.

Telling me I shouldn't highlight Jack's bad attributes, followed by telling me there's two ways to look at every situation, is an oxymoron.

I believe Watts has a net negative impact on our list. I'm entitled to that opinion.

The whole management of this has left a sickly feeling to all involved especially the supporters. Time to move on but reflect on how poorly it was done.

Agree pick 31 in a poor draft year is the proverbial packet of chips.

Hope MFC is not paying any of Watts salary in 2018. That would be simply incredible to believe !!

Was hoping for a pick in the 20's, but it seems like a done deal.

Club is sending a clear message. Like it or not, anyone that isnt putting it all on the line is not welcome anymore.

Say what you want about Jack but he was always a great club man and a top bloke

I hope he does well at Port but this kinda sucks

InB4 he kicks a bag against us next year

I’m just trying to be pragmatic and see the situation for what it is.

If it was this time last year, a late first rounder would’ve been more around the mark.

Whilst I agree with you that 31 might not turn into anything, the flip side of it is knowing what Watts already gives us and then nutting up to the realisation that it’s not going to be the difference between where we are now and a Flag.

Who do you support? Watts or the coach and the FD of the MFC?

Didn’t say you shouldn’t have an opinion I said you’re a person focusing on the negative. Sure you’re entitled to your negative opinion as I’m entitled to my positive one. Which to my belief is two ways to look at the situation. Hardly an oxymoron.

No sickly feeling with me, SONS.  I'm one of the supporters that you speak of, and I'm quite content with it.

I tell you what, I wanted the whole team to cop a hiding after the way they finished off the season.  I'll excuse some of the young kids that ran out of puff.  I will never accept that a senior player/s didn't prepare as good as they could've.  If Watts was the biggest culprit, then I'm glad they have made an example of him.

I was quite numb after not making the finals, and lost a lot of interest in the finals series in general.  Insipid performances from my team did this to me.  I feel some sense of relief that Goodwin and co won't accept mediocrity.

The telling point about all this is that out of 18 sides, from what has been reported, only 3 expressed an interest in picking up Watts.  That's telling.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
