I'm hearing a very strong rumour that a straight swap of Watts for Zak Jones is on the cards.

Haven't heard that nor has my source

precisely - he finished somewhere in the middle when messiah acolytes expected him to be in the top 3 or better and can't get over the fact that he was just a naughty boy.

Watts' finishes in the B&F:

2016 5th

2015 18th

2014 10th

2013 11th

2012 16th

2011 9th

2010 25th

No-one anywhere has said they expect him to be in our top 3 in the B&F but if you really believe the above is a good return for someone with so much talent then all I can say is I am glad you are not in charge of our recruiting & list management.

And from Watts' own mouth at the B&F last year upon receiving his fifth-place award: “I’ll make it (speech) short, it’s taken me a while to get up here (on stage). “Usually, I’m down there feeling a bit awkward drinking free p---”.

Can you imagine Viney saying that?

There it is again.  Watts not judged on his output (a middling player who occasionally turns it on) but on what he could have been.    He suffers because he is a failed messiah.

You didn’t see him play sport as a teenager, did you?

Oh dear...do you have access to his GPS numbers and training stats Sue? Do you have access to the game plan and what Watts is instructed to do in a game?

Do you think the coaches (pro tip: who vote in the B&F) might have a reasonable idea of what he does and what he should be doing? For those if us outside the club the B&F is the best guide to how a player is judged by those that matter. And in that, Jack is a failure - regardless of where he was drafted.

Your unquestioning support of Jack is touching but in reality grounded in emotive claptrap. You need to get a grip.

no. I presume he was a star? So what - are you just confirming what I said - too much expectation has led to an unreasonable reaction

Jack was so much better than all the kids around him. He never had to push himself.

Sadly that has carried on through his AFL career.

The expectation was deserved. He didn’t push himself nearly as hard as he could have

Which is where he finds himself right now, under achieved sadly

I'm staggered about what you read into what I say.  Am I saying he is a star? No. And thus disagreeing with the FD?  No again. I'm saying he is a middling player (look at his B&F results) who is hammered by some supporters because they can't get over their disappointment that he is not the Messiah.  It's not me that needs to get a grip.

Had confirmarion from a separate person but not going to speculate till I get something concrete

From Twitter, (for which I make no claims. On the other hand, would make sense)

"Other the Lever and Balic, do the dees have any interest in further midfield/forward depth options, or are they likely to go to the draft?"

"They do, but cap will come into play. Hamstrung somewhat."

A thought: not a rumour.

It appears that there is an increasing number of players that are looking to move within the trade period and that has been the result of the push by the players association. What will be the impact of this over time? Will it mean that the clubs have to re-think what they offer and what they ask for? With the increasing number of trades that are looking to get done I believe it will have the impact of lowering the value offered and asked for.

In my opinion, the AFL should shorten the trade period to 7 days and allow the negotiations to take place for 24hrs of those 7 days and that those 7 days should be immediately prior to the draft. I think this would concentrate the minds of the footy departments in the clubs.

Any club that is not fully staffed and working towards the evolving nature of the draft/trade scenario and is not showing flexibility and imagination in this area will be left behind. I believe the trading period is much more important than the draft as the trade period gives a club a chance to make immediate structural changes to the list rather than wait on the development of youngsters.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
