Strange that JKH did not get a role in Viney's absence.

None of the VFL regulars have grabbed their oppotunity when granted.

Perhaps Maynard this week but not full of confidence.

The Hogan selection is a surprise... will be interesting to see if we can get our forward line functioning again. It has not really worked for several weeks.

Another big game... Go Dees

Except when it functioned last week

That's a relative statement. Yes, it functioned enough to win but we had 62 Inside 50s and had 26 scoring shots.

In our best wins: StK 55 and 30, Ess 55 and 27, WB 54 and 28, Adel 53 and 22, Coll 57 and 29, WCE 47 and 24, PA 62 and 23.

There is a lot of noise in those numbers but we were running at a better efficiency earlier in the year. And we have left ourselves a tiny bit exposed in those last two stirring wins with excellent starts that didn't get enough out of the domination.

A rough guide would be a shot at goal for every two entries and we didn't get that, so I do believe it can function much better.

Stretch for Viney. Obviously weid out for Hogan. Just put Hogan at FF.

CHF please (as much as positions actually mean anything)

We start well, break their spirits and cruise to a win.

We get a slow start, give them belief, and there'll be a lot of nervous Dees fans!

Please can we just do it easy for once?

Great start last week wasn't exactly translated to a cruise ?

God don't say that. Geez wines and Bont would have been handy.

I saw that. Lynch's logic was essentially that their best midfielder in Beams is a better player than our best midfielder in Nathan Jones (according to Roos).

Same. Overall I have been happy with Frost & O Mac's development down back this year.

Could there be more to him not being selected? I'm sure his contract it up at years end, and the paranoia in me says he is off to another club. Again, this is based on noting but my paranoia.

That's a stronger base than for many of the arguments on DL (particularly the dark web)

Got a feeling that he was hoping Roos would say Viney instead of Jones, which sort of made the conversation peter out.

Just to clarify, having screwed Viney's foot by bringing him back too early, we now propose to take the same risk with Hogan's shoulder? I'd rather see Watts play, and give Hogan at least one more week.

On the bold assumption that Hogan is actually fit to play, hopefully we see:

IN: Hogan, Stretch, Maynard

OUT: Weideman, Wagner, Viney

Does anyone think we will go with Hogan/Weid combo with Trac being used in the middle?

Except that apparently it's a different injury to Viney's foot so it would seem we haven't "screwed Viney's foot by bringing him back too early."

However, I share your concern about Hogan. Presumably the only reason Weideman is in the selected 25 is for him to be a late replacement for Hogan should it be decided on Sunday that he's not actually ready.

The surgeon who screwed Hogan's collar bone back together also put a bolt in Max's elbow so he can't straighten it.

Goodwin on Viney: "We certainly feel that Jack has got some footy ahead of him. We're positive he'll play again this year".

Doesn't fill me with great confidence as a Melbourne supporter. In fact, I'm fearing the worst whilst trying to slap myself out of it.

Stretch coming in for Viney, Hogan replacing Weideman.

Kennedy the carry-over emergency.

So the bench will be Brayshaw, Stretch, Hannah and Wagner.

Maynard and Sammy playing for Casey.

This might change tonight but that's the team as of right now.

All those going on about the Lions midfield being one of the best around, where was that midfield during the:

70 pt loss to WC and 90 pt loss to Geelong, and 80 pt loss to Port?

they have 4-5 very good players, then a bunch of kids, no experienced fwds and very little depth in their worst 11 out of the 22.

no excuses

Put this up last week. Shows our drop off in fwd line efficiency. Against StK it was better but was functioning better earlier in the year.....

How can you be sure?

Goody likes to use the word positive as 'hopeful' an awful lot.

All I am sure of is that unless it's a season ending calibre injury, Viney isn't missing more than 1 week

The words quoted in http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-18/dees-hopeful-skipper-will-be-right-for-round-23 are "we're really positive"

The article makes it clear that the injury is different location wise to the plantar fascitis procedure but makes reference to recovery from it so one wonders if this latest injury is referred in nature due to Viney favouring the recovery from the pf operation.  Do we know if it's the same foot?

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
