I would hope we make the point of asking the head umpire to take us through the new rule that affects the ruck contest that says "If the player is Gawn, then the opposition ruckman shall receive free kick for no obvious reason"

it was a disgraceful display of umpiring in that regard today and it was obvious Gawn held back on even contesting ruck for fear of giving away a free.

How about the one on half time where Jetts was sandwiched and the aints players ran in to each other. [censored] me off imensley.

Anyone care to explain why Maxi kept getting pinged at the centre bounces? I've (neither do the umps apparently) literally no understanding of the rules in the centre circle.

Good luck

  1. 15.5  FREE KICKS – RELATING TO RUCKS

Each Team must have no more than one Ruck to contest any bounce, throw up or boundary throw in.

A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player where the Player:

    1. (a)  who is not a designated Ruck contests a throw up or boundary throw in;

    2. (b)  unduly pushes, bumps, holds or blocks an opposition Player who is the Ruck contesting a bounce or throw up by a field Umpire or throw in by a boundary Umpire; or

    3. (c)  who is contesting the football as the Ruck at any bounce, throw up or boundary throw in makes contact with the opposition Ruck prior to the football leaving the field or boundary Umpire’s hand.

So given the above if the bounce goes over to one side of max and he stands between the ball and the opposition ruckman and taps it then he can be pinged for blocking? putting an arm out is blocking but jumping into a player to push him out is not, Who know ruckwork was so hard?

Weideman did what he had to do and was invaluable today in the forward set up. Competed and fought hard.

Doesn't do enough, these are important games there's no room for bit players everyone has to impact.

Max was getting pinged for keeping the other ruckman away with a straight arm, apparently the arm needs to be bent, the umps paid it in other games this weekend. Another rule of the week they will deny

Liquid paper.

In a black and white bottle - can be a bit messy but once you get the hang of it it's just like painting a wall.

Just heard part of Richardson's presser.

Dreadful bloke. Totally lacks respect for opposition and refused to acknowledge that Melbourne was the better side.

Suffer fool !!!

Coached me for two years for two Premierships.

One of the best blokes you'll ever meet. Would just about do anything for him.

But to each their own...

And he literally said "Full credit to Melbourne..." after a couple of minutes, before giving us more praise.

I find him extremely boring in the media but thought I better check his press conference after that post, as it did sound out of character for him.

OK thanks WB. Didnt someone say Salem would be ok and wasnt even reported?

Unsure about Hogan, but would be nice to have all 3 of those back. Pedo stays in, put him on a wing if need be, team plays better with him in it for whatever reason but as Clint said, Gawn forward and Pedo in ruck looks much more dangerous

Hope Salem is in the clear & ok

Depends on how much concrete you used to put it in in the first place. Usually six whacks with a sledgehammer will do it ...

Yes, also know many people who were involved with him at the rams and not a bad word said. Top bloke.

Haven't, heard the press conference, but it's not like their turnovers in the 1st quarter were a result of extreme pressure, they were just awful.

We almost lost that game at selection with the appalling decision to play Weideman & Wagner, but thankfully we had enough contributors to overcome the passengers. Both McDonalds were fantastic, Pedersen was great, Lewis was (mostly) solid,  and there were some massive cameos up forward. Brayshaw's return was immense, now we need to get Stretch back playing some decent football.

With so much improvement possible in Viney, Petracca & Garlett, we still look very capable of doing some damage in September. That said, we have to come with the right attitude next week because Brisbane have the capacity to cause an underperforming midfield some real problems.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
