Bernie's 'hit' on Eddie was a mere elbow brush to let the little fella know he was around. I've looked at the replay several times from all (limited) angles available. There is no conclusive evidence that he hit Eddie's jaw. It looks like a slide up the neck which was enhanced by Eddie's (over)reaction and facial expression. Bernie got stitched up by the MRP because of the perception that he is a naughty boy. Martin is the naughty boy but he was deemed to be reacting to an aggressive opponent. Criticism of Bernie here is short sighted. He used far more rugged tactics on Dangerfield a little while ago and was applauded by all for the great shut down job he performed. Perception is everything in the fake news media!

Many people are seemingly very susceptible to fake news.

This was a 2 week penalty (i.e. 1 with a guilty plea) that was increased to a 3 week penalty because of his bad record.

Completely fair.

The real problem is that Martin's strike was deemed "careless" and not "intentional".

Honestly the AFL is completely stuffed. They change the parameters on these rules by the week, sack guys for screwing consenting adult women and just generally make [censored] up as they go along. The fish rots at the head and that won't improve until the goon running the place is gone.

The only reason I turn up every week is to support this club and this year more than ever I have been proud about the way they walk out and contest every match.

Bernie is a part of that, he won't get off all offences like a Franklin or Martin and he won't get personal recommendations from television hosts that nobody actually watches or politicians that don't even know who their voter base is but Bernie has guts and delivers week in week out so stuff you Gil, stuff you Waleed, stuff you Mal and bring back Bernie.

Wow ok, now I'm completely confused. I thought it was a fine for the "strike" on Betts and 2 up to 3 for the bump. THIS MAKES SO SENSE!!!!

I almost feel we should definitely contest the Betts strike, the MRP made that distinction of what is and isn't negligible contact and Vince's "elbow" surely falls under that. It was a graze at best which is exactly what you would've said for Schofield's. And if you're going to suspend Vince for that then you suspend Martin as well. There is ZERO consistency going here, but Schofield gets off because Oliver is perceived to have taken a (pointless) dive!

The bump I took as 50/50 and am surprised that given it got a charge he got a fine. The MRP are such a joke, it honestly doesn't make sense anymore.

So Vince gets 2 weeks because of a bad reputation and playing for the MFC. Martin from Richmond gets of for eye gauging because he is one of the Brownlow favourites and Richmond pull in a big crowd each week and are playing the Giants this week. It just goes to show how full of shizen the MRP and AFL are.

Completely [censored] off with the lack of consistency, particularly when compared to Scofield and also Ben Cunnington (he only hit Burnie hard enough in the guts to make him vomit, but I guess it was an accident), but I'm trying to look at this glass half full; Bernie could probably do with a few weeks rest to freshen up for the final run home.

Jackson Trengove's was deemed "careless" too. Whilst I think Vince deserves what he gets for stupidity, the clear blatant inconsistency by the MRP is ridiculous.

Oh it's mrs sanctimony back again. How's the view from the high horse?

Interesting from Gary Lyon saying Goodwin would be so filthy with Vince for being undisciplined that even if he doesn't get rubbed out his spot could be in jeopardy.

Who cares what Lyon says he has no special knowledge of the MFC even though he pretends to have it to gain some sort of bs relevence completely over him and his comments

Love him or hate him he does have a point - can imagine goody not well pleased given all the noise of late plus the fact we have an injury / suspended list longer than a Hunt torpy.

i do agree both looked like there wasn't much in it but still - bloody undisciplined by bern.

If Vince didn't keep committing 'school-boy' tough acts, none of you would be whinging about the MRP.

Vince is the one and only person held accountable in this. Everything else is pointless to talk about.

Most people here are talking about the inconsistency by the MRP, Vince aside, it's rigged.

Really Steve. Youve your dislike for the fellow , we get it but if you're that blindingly stupid to not be awarecof the many occasions the MFC gets whacked by the clownfest aka mrp then youll do argument no favours.

Bernie does some silly things. Gets nicked. Others do ridiculous things and are given treatments beholding a cover-up.

All most reasoned folk are arguing is... fair's fair.

No, take a look over just this weekends events in regards to MRP, then go back each week by week, if you find consistency and fairness I'd be surprised. Even Wayne Carey thinks it's rigged as per his 3 comments in 2 weeks on TV.

Oh yes I would.  Almost every week we see evidence of its inconsitency and corrpution, regardless of any MFC player being involved.

Our captain certainly isn't happy and gives Bernie a serve:  "He really does need to smarten himself up," Jones said..."It's happened far too often with him over the past 12-18 months, he's been (suspended) too many times..."It's frustrating for us because he's a very important player to us."

Can't argue with that.

Yes, the MRP is inconsistent, but so what? If our players stop hitting blokes in the head, they will have nothing to worry about.

The only reason people have their panties in a bunch is because morons like Vince & Bugg can't control themselves and instead keep throwing elbows and fists around when there is no need to do so.

Bernie should take the two weeks, and spend the time working out how how he can get these acts out of his game.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
