JKH has earnt his chance. Cant be any worse than what Stretch was offering last few games. Give him a fair go.

Was looking forward to not having to deal with Lynch on top of Jenkins and Walker.

That's an ouch, was hoping we got to run off Scotty T all night.

Two good ins for the Crows. Thompson did nothing last week in his first game this year

And is last AFL game you'd think. He was a gun in his prime, which wasn't long ago.

Don't like JKH in.

He can play at VFL but is far from convincing in the big time. I honestly can't see that he offers any more than Stretch.

He was very timid last time he played would've preferred Trenners

Hoping that JKH will perform with more time in the middle. I think it's where he plays his best footy and since our midfield has drastically improved, he just hasn't had the time there.

I guess the match committee want to see if he can.

I'm not wrapped with the idea but if they're bringing him on off the back of VFL form, he needs to be played in a similar position to where he's been playing so well at that level.

He has proven time and time again that he's not a small forward- please don't play him there!

I like that we're protecting players from travelling for next week to have some valuable fresh ins against Port (Watts, Tyson, Salem, Viney??)

Hopefully Jay cuts them a new one in Darwin. Glad Milera isn't playing, he's pretty handy.

JKH was terrible in his earlier games this year, there's no doubt.

But geez, he's gone back and absolutely earned another shot at it. And it's not like Billy has been setting the world on fire.

If I had to grade all our players from 1-44, JKH would probably be 20-30 based on form. Stretch probably 15-25. Right now I'd probably put JKH in front of Billy on form.

That's what I thought too. I know of the gulf in quality between VFL and AFL and so forth, but you can't ask for much more than what he's been doing down there. I'm nervous because I don't rate him but there's no question he has earned selection, and it would be difficult for him to offer any less than Stretch at present.

Reckon JKH would have been in a few weeks earlier if not for hitting the piss when required not to.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this weeks selection, but happy to see what JKH can do. Hope to see wattsy back next week.

Hope Bernie can do the job on Sloane again and please just win melbourne.

Wish I could be in Darwin, would be nice to see some nice sunshine.

Taking Stretch out on last week's form will not be a massive loss.  Yes, the kid has talent, but he hasn't really delivered in the last couple of games.

JKH has been solid at VFL for an extended period.  He has earned his shot - and he wont have to do a great deal to offer more than what stretch did.  He can bolster the midfield which is what we are desperate for right now.

Not the best team we can put on the park, but maybe the best team of those still standing.  Go Dees.

I rate JKH but his games this year have tested my conviction.

I have always seen him as a mid as he has great lateral movement and vision.

Let's hope that whatever the impediment was to him playing Afl standard footy has been removed.

Much rather Stretch than JKH, even with Stretch out of form. JKH has definitely been tearing it up in the VFL so I hope he can bring it. Nervous about this game. Their forward line has strengths that if they play to their full potential, we will find it tough to cover them all.

Stretch doesn't yet have enough credits in the bank to have a combined 21 disposals in two games of football playing in the midfield and expect to be retained.

Obvious is obvious.

Lynch back after 2 weeks with meningitis hmmmmm. My partner had it several years ago, viral which is the lesser form, it is a very debilitating diease. She would still get partial symptoms for a few years if she was tired or run down. I reckon he'll struggle as the longer the game goes.

I've never been a huge fan of JKH, always thought he was too slow for a dynamic forward and too soft for a mid. Then he was aweful earlier this year, I mean aweful.

But, he then popped up with 2-3 of the best VFL games ever, huge possessions, tackles, clearances and goals. So I went to Port Melbourne a few weeks back and watched him close. We got smashed that day, but only ever looked likely when JKH went and got it. I was really impressed by his speed, lateral movement and hard ball gets. If he can be half as good he will do more than Stretch has in the last few weeks.

like Nibbler last year, perhaps he needed really good VFL form to get some confidence, and confidence can take you a long way.

A likely out when Viney and co are back, so for now, good luck young fella.

Adelaide are going in way too tall. Conditions will suit ground ball players, I'm thinking we're in with a big shot at this now.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
