A 30 metre run and a 45 metre floater gets us half way up the ground.

If Tyson and Watts are fit, I would drop Pedo and Melksham

I know they won't actually drop Melksham, but I can't deal with him as a footballer. He is awful!

Melksham is the main tagger these days. Gibbs was pretty much ineffective as was Pendlebury and many others. Hitting the scoreboard with crucial goals has been a bonus.

Dont think Watts will be right for this week. Also hoping that the NT ground is a leveler as we need a full squad to really push the crows i think

In: Tyson, Trengove, Kennedy

Out: Stretch, Smith, Kent

For those pushing for Kennedy over Kent I would be interested in why.

To some extent I could understand JKH but in reality they are three players at the same level.

If anything Kent is ranked a little higher based on some of his performances last year. Kent is now feeling the pace of senior football and should get another game.

If JKH or Kennedy were demonstrably better or offered something else I could understand but they are all thereabouts.

Interesting that many of those pushing for Kent to be dropped are not saying the same about Smith who on any score did very little.

Trenners is no longer an option I am afraid.

In Darwin i would put JKH and Kent in, and give them both a good run in the heat.....

Tyson probably comes in on a wing for Stretch who's just a bit up and down at the moment, not sure he's confident. Another stint in the VFL might get him right for the back end of the year when the ball movement flows better because I still think he's a lock and play guy on a wing.

Makes us slow through the wings with Tyson and Lewis holding them down and maybe Melky and Harmes going through their but that's ok.

Joel Smith gets another week, the back 7 did the job well enough and we may as well give him another go. He'll be a player, needs game time and help. Wouldn't be opposed to moving Lewis to half back and throwing Smith forward if it doesn't work out against the Crows.

Question is does JKH and/or Kennedy come in for Kent (fumbly, shaky disposal and ineffective tackling) or Pedersen (limited impact forward). I'd be inclined at this stage to stay with Kent because he still has upside and we'll need to make changes post Darwin, and to stay with Pedersen because the 3 talls force Lever to defend more.

Shuffle the deck until you get a hand that you like.

Kent started poorly but came good when it counted. We're lacking so many players at the moment can't see him being dropped with his big body, pace and experience (compared to possible replacements).

Stretch was ordinary but I thought he was playing reasonable football before he got dropped earlier in the year. I would drop him. Let's see what the coaches do.

If Trengove was ever going to play again it was last week. Best of luck mate. I feel for you.

Joel Smith was a strange inclusion. We either believe he can have an impact in the finals with his x-factor and persist with him. Or drop him this week when a few more players are available.

The ins are based on availability.

Our forward line is better without hogan at the moment

Give him the year off to rest and recover

Hogan had a direct hand in 2 goals (T-Mac and Melksham's winner). Kicked one himself and missed an early sitter. Our run on in the second was when he was shifted into the middle when they stopped clearing the ball at will. When T-Mac was hot in the third he played wide and high to not allow double teaming. That's a fair role contribution for someone who has hardly played this year.

Tyson will playin the middle, someone else will move to the wing.

Totally random question, but I'm going to be in London on Saturday for work. Any ideas where I can try and watch the game, preferably near Oxford street?

Not sure I'll have time but could always sneak a pub lunch and watch the second half, if anyone has a hot tip?

Temple walkabout next to Temple station would be showing it. Not too far away from Oxford Street and it's nice along the river there.

If not, you can always sign up to watchafl for a week and watch on laptop/ipad. Used it for every game this year and works great.

Jaded, I hope your " friend " is at the match this week. He owes us that much. He can go swanning around London any time. We have footy games to win.

I watched the replay today and felt every player did his bit. Stretch was involved in the first half, Kent came good in the last half - nothing spectacular but plenty of effort and grunt - and what little we saw of Smith was encouraging. I'd persevere with him and it's obvious that the coaches see more in him than us hoi pollois. I was surprised they brought him back so quickly, but I can see the obvious class he brings.

All in all, the win over Carlton was so satisfying because we won it without Jones, Viney, Salem, Brayshaw, Bugg, Vandenberg, Watts and Tyson. We won it without contributions from Hogan and Smith who were underdone.

Both will be better next week.

Were Tyson and Watts to be available next week I'd leave out Melksham - his disposal is a liability - and whoever doesn't come up this week.

People calling for Hogan to be dropped are just the same old people who criticised him all through last year and early this year. It was his first game back, he was clearly rusty but not as bad as some are suggesting and he played a role, albeit not a stellar one - but as is the classic problem for Hogan, he set such a high bar early that his critics expect/demand him to dominate each week.

Ridiculous calling for him to be dropped. Absolutely ridiculous.

Sorry but no.

Having said that, Melksham is playing a solid role at the moment and I don't see him being dropped (yet, anyway).

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
