This could be an interesting thread because according to posters on the GAMEDAY thread, there are about 12 candidates for omission while Casey only had 9 MFC listed players in their team yesterday.

Best guess - Dom Tyson & Jack Watts in if declared fit.

Smith and Stretch to make way.

Ben Ken making a strong claim for inclusion.

Hoges looked well off the pace but happy leaving him in for another week.

Presuming Dom and JW4 available - Stretch and Kent on thin ice IMO.

And Vince had better lift next week with Salem possibly being ready the following week.

Another week? I'm happy to leave him in for the next decade

Not sure what to make of Hogans performance today. He really struggled for obvious reasons and maybe needs a week a Casey to regain some match fitness/form?

in: Tyson, watts

If Watts plays then I think Pedersen is the unlucky one to make way. Goodwin said in his press conference that T Mac will continue to play forward, and we can't have Watts, Hogan, Pedersen AND T Mac down there.  I think we are fine with Frost and OMac back there with Wagner, Hibberd and even Smith playing that third tall role as well (which, in hindsight, Jetta plays as well!)

We might give a Hannan a rest this week and give Kent another run, especially if Tyson plays, so I could see it being:

In:  Watts, Tyson

Out:  Pedersen, Hannan.

Pederson did some key things in the last, that mark was pretty special as was the tackle.

Agree. Can't see them bringing in Kent and Smith for one game then dropping them. Pedo unlucky, but can't fit all the talls down forward. Stretch worst performed over the last two weeks so he makes way for Tyson.

And in a team that was horribly out-marked today and last week, we need those who can take a grab to stay in.

I've gone from thinking Stretch was a sure-handed linkman with decent disposal to barely VFL.

Key player at the moment as he can rotate thru the midfield

No point being rotated through the midfield if you're not actually getting the ball. Hannan had something like 2 possessions in the first half.

I'd leave Smith in, you can't miss half a season and come straight back in for your second game. In the longer term, we'll all be better off.

Kent and possibly Stretch the outs for me, though I find Stretch a hard one. Even though he's struggling, VFL is too easy for him (there's much more time) and I'm not sure how much he's going to learn/improve. We saw the gap in quality between the AFL/VFL with Kent: he's done OK in the VFL the last few weeks, but looked a different class (in a negative sense) today. I wouldn't play Kent again, if we want fringe half-forwards would rather Kennedy or JKH.

But isn't that the problem? He's now being asked to play also as an insider, and then with the absence of insiders, there's less opportunity to stand back and be that linkman. Also, he does have decent/good disposal, but only when he has time.

It's an interesting one, not sure of the solution.

other than the obvious outs of smith, Kent and Stretch. I would also look at resting Hunt to me he looks to have been struggling with something since the West Coast game. 2 of those 4 go out for Watts and Tyson. Pederson also possibly out for balance reasons.

It's funny how we can see the same game yet obviously see things quite differently, particularly as I rate your opinion.  I thought Hannan was far from the worst for us. Perhaps it had something to do with me watching it on the tele. I

I get that - it was hard to put his name down, but I didn't know who else to choose.  His first half was poor but I do agree that his second half was much better, and he does do some good things for us.  The more I think about it the more I think someone like Stretch may miss out if Tyson gets up for the game this weekend.

Smith out is the obvious. Stretch would be close.

Nup Smith to stay, Stretch not up to it

Outs Stretch , Kent ( limited output today)

In Tyson, Watts!

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
