Thanks mate. i only watched the last two minutes about ten times and still got my player wrong. Do you think it would have been paid if Lewis was in our forward zone?

watching on tv the siren went a split second before he marked. not sure if that would be before or after it would be heard on the ground   sound can be a funny thing   technically i believe the game is only over when umpire says so though i do believe a few years ago a result was changed by afl because umpire didn't hear siren

So, went to a 40th tonight. Was able to maintain a strict media blackout as attendees were not footy people at all. Got home less drunk than anticipated (I took a 19L keg of homebrew) and decided to watch the Foxtel recording. Four points down with three minutes to go in the last and ....

Assume we lost?

The good news is I caught the full replay this morning.

Sunday Sippers (home brewed American Wheat Beer) straight out of the Demons keg fridge have been superb. Brother-in-law (Bombres) is here this arvo so I made him watch the last 15 minutes of the game because I could...might watch it again later on too.

Just love a comment on Foxtel saying that what a brilliant move to have a backman (T-Mac) move forward and kick goals. HELLO. I clearly remember (and I think it was Garland against the "druggies') we made the same move and we were crucified in the media as "TANKING" and paid the penality. We have had to suffer so much s--t as a club over the journey to where we are now.

Put bundy rum in that beast and I would be like Barney on the simpons and skulling it directly from the tap.

Nice set up kuma.

Might have already been mentioned but in Ch 7 after the game interview with Clarry, when told he had the most handballs ever at this stage of the season he responded with a smile he prefers hand balling to kicking, which I guess is pretty obvious, but I think it's something the coaches need to look at. Numerous times his quick hands put the reciever under enormous pressure and we either cough it up or have to get the ball back from a stoppage. He's an above average kick and think he could be even more damaging if he kicked it more often.

It was moving Frawley to FF (something we did a few years later anyway) and Paul Johnson to defence to cover Nathan Brown that raised eyebrows. My biggest annoyance with that whole saga was we got done when I honestly feel Carlton threw the Kruiser Cup match against us the year before. If we got done they should've too.

So, on review, I am so happy we found a way to win this.  I think we pinched it - we actually played many elements of our game style poorly, and were bettered in many key areas throughout the night.

We were outmarked, out-tackled (especially that a lot of ours didn't stick), and they seemed to stroll away from centre clearances to scoring opportunities.  They were more efficient going inside 50, and outmarked us on our 'bombing' entries into or 50.

There were some brilliant individual efforts amongst the slips, misses and [censored] ups.  Viney is simply a beast.  When we got our game and run to work, we look slick and fast.  Old MacDonald did great, and Max is just so dominant, that when the team gets their groove back around his tap outs, this could get (beautifully) scary.

So, lets bag the 4 points and head for the Swans.  If that is when it isn't perfect and we find a way to win, then when we play 4 quarters (like we did versus the doggies), we are just going to be a thing of glory to watch.

Go Dees!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one frustrated with his calling! I did a double take when he called Tom McDonald "Colin Garland", I initially thought, "maybe he meant Garlett" but Jeffy was nowhere to be seen.

It always confuses me that the best commentators are on radio, is it simply a case of wanting people that have a "face for TV"?

Dom Tyson cops it, but he had a damn good game and the passion for this club is clearly there from him. Watch this interview with Burgo for confirmation. The boys must absolutely be loving the Melbourne footy club right now.

Face for TV? Basil's got a face like a dropped pie.

What a joke Ch 7 has become.

My incredulity led me to a little research on the interwebs. It seems Basil was an injury-prone flash-in-the-pan for West Perth in the WAFL in the late 80s/early 90s. Went to some talent camp hosted by Mick Malthouse and didn't get a look in.

An interesting tidbit on his blossoming media career (courtesy Wikipedia):

"In his first year at Seven, Zempilas was awarded “Best News Story” at the annual Western Australia Football Media Guild Awards for his coverage of the Melbourne Football Club being thrown out of a West Coast Eagles closed training session."

It really bothers me that those of us with half a football brain have far more knowledge of our game than these two-bit hacks leading the commentary on the national TV broadcast. AT THE VERY LEAST GET PLAYERS NAMES CORRECT.

And then of course the condescending and inane verbal diarrhoea of BT, Bruce, etc.

Surely this calls for a boycott/revolution/coup d'état/bloody uprising from the AFL supporters community. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

It was a pleasure to wake up this morning and not have multiple reported posts to deal with. What a difference winning makes to the life of the admin team. If only my kids could take a leaf out of the behaviour of Demonlanders the morning after a win.

Andy - I'd like to report you.

Typical of DL to find something wrong and whinge. Even the admin team have to plug the gap when there's nothing to find fault with!

I just watched two replays of games I missed watching live. Incidentally, they were probably our two most exhilarating wins of the year.
That was a good old fashioned arm wrestle. Some will say that it was our 'guts, determination and will to win' that got us over the line.
I disagree.
We seemed cool, calm and collected. Moving the ball forward for that final thrust forward, there was real purpose.
The second that goal was kicked, it was straight back to bottle play up.
Next week, it's the Swannies. I finally get my internet connection back so I can watch it from siren to siren.

Hopefully you pointed out to your BIL that it's a pretty rare thing to drop a 3 goal lead in 5 minutes.

Also wondered what would it feel like to support a club that dropped a 3 goal lead in 5 minutes.

In case he's absent minded, do it again. And again. After each goal, do it again. Can't be too careful.

Fantastic.

When you multiply that by the other 21 players there would've been a very special feeling amongst the group.

Ok...so I've had 24 hours to soak it in.  And to reflect, read reports, forums, watch replays, highlights.  Damn it's great!!!!

The thing/thought that keeps playing in my head is the Simon Goodwin presser after the Tigers game.  It was along the lines of "good teams find a way to win".

Against the Tigers, we were 2 players down early and were leading by 20+ points, but lost.

Last night, we were 2 players down (later), down by 17 points.  Viney injured.  Away from home.  No Hogan, Jones, Watts.  We found a way to win.

This was as impressive a win as any.  Simply on a high!  THE LID IS OFF!

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
