I appreciate what your saying in terms of not over reacting to the news of another head knock, but it's not really a knee jerk reaction to suggest a young guy suffering a potential 4th concussion in less than 12 months might want to think about his long term future.

It is a pretty extraordinary situation.

Of course he'll be thinking about his future - do you really think he isn't? I can't see how he could be doing anything other than sweating over this. The bloke must be crapping himself. I really feel for him.

That's all the more reason why supporters and the footy media should just let him go about dealing with it privately, with the best advice, surrounded by people who love him, so that he can do whatever needs to be done. I don't think he needs every man and his dog having a say on a personal health issue that is actually nobody's business but his own.

By the way I don't think it's knee jerk to say "he needs to think about his future", but it's very much knee jerk to say "he should retire", which people have said in this thread.

Wow just saw the video on afl.com

He got sniped again by some coward. Unbelievable.

Is he being targeted? Too many coincidences going on in the past few weeks, I think. The VFL/AFL need to get to the bottom of this one.

Faarrck. I'm a big fan of Angus. Lived the way he went about his footy in 2015 and really hope he can have a long AFL career

More than just a coincidence that except for the first one, these are all happening in the VFL? More sniping going on at a lower level?

From watching that video he was definitely bumped and it was high. Carlton players should know better than anyone that any injury will increase the penalty, so this was plain nasty.

I hope Gus is ok, but at the same time I'd be ok with a medical report suggesting he take the rest of the year off. What would an appropriate penalty be?

I've been on this for a while now, we're getting hammered illegally at VFL level and it needs to stop.

What's the latest on Maynard?

VFL tribunal and match review (do they bother having them?) are a bloody joke.

What, the guy who sniped him a couple of weeks ago got one week???

Get the Carlscum doctor who assessed Rowe to have a look at Gus: he would say, were the boot in the other foot, "serious permanent brain damage" and get the "assailant" rubbed out for life.

As much as I hate to say it....I think Gus has got to leave the game. Or at the least just finish for the year. A terrible shame for him and the club. My god we've had terrible luck with high draft picks.

Sooks, snipers and sledgers. ........and a good year to you Carlton for the rest of the Century.

Unless you're a doctor (and I assume a specialist in the field of brain anatomy), and unless you're privy to his medical records, I don't believe you're in a position to proffer ANY advice re his career.

If being a recognised expert in the area and having personal access to information is now the baseline standard for a comment on DLand things are going to be VERY quiet around here ?

I appreciate what you and @Nasher have said. I guess I was trying to defend the sentiment of the people who I think are probably just acting out of concern for a young guy.

Ill stay out of it, but I think we can all agree that we hope Gus is healthy!

I think when it comes to offering life advice (even if it will never be received) regarding a player's personal medical condition, then yes, I think the baseline should be a recognised expert. There is a clear line between this and discussing who should be in the team and all the other kind of stuff we spitball on here in my view.

Appreciate that people's concerns over his long term health are well meaning - nobody wants to see another Daniel Bell lining up on the field not knowing what he's doing there, but I still think when it comes down to it, we're too removed from the situation and it's none of our business anyway.

Many knocks to the head = concern. It's pretty simple.

That's not a knee jerk reaction.

Again, concern is understandable, calling for him to retire is knee jerk.

Was at the game, didn't see the hit just saw him walking off whilst talking to the trainers. He was shaken up but not exactly out cold so although concerning I think he should be fine.

So are you actually a neurosurgeon? Because in another thread you didn't know that helmets don't necessarily prevent concussions.

What??? This was an accidentel head clash by 2 players going for the ball.

Its a miracle that brayshaw only suffered mild concussion. Most Players would have been knocked out cold.

Not too sure how you can say he is more susceptible to concussion when every incident would have caused concussion to others.

just bad luck imo

Look how about we just wait for a statement from the club first before we all bite each others heads off.

I wish Gus all the best in his recovery.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
