Demonland Player of the Year

6 - Viney as good as he has been. Tried to do too much in the end.

5 - Frost - so important and just took the game on.

4 - Jones - really strong at the stoppages.

3 - Oliver - Hodge loves him. So do I.

2 - Lewis - such an important player for us.

1 - Watts - we look so much better when he is in the ruck.

Jayden Hunt busted his absolute gut all day to put on some defensive pressure when we were flat early. No love?

He played a great game.

I just felt those I named were more influential overall.

I felt Jones played well but his inaccuracy early hurt him. Hibberd also played very well early on but went quiet at times. Tyson and Vince did some good things but were not damaging (for mine).

6.  Viney:  looks like a leader to me

5.  Frost:  going from strength to strength, and becoming a 'springboard' in the back half

4.  Oliver:  Clarrie did what Clarrie does.

3.  Lewis:  right place at right time and leadership

2.  Hunt:  his move forward was inspirational.  One to remember for the future!

1.  Jones: very strong around the contest, but some (unusual for him) wasteful disposal let him down at times.

6 Frost - Third quarter was immense. Took the game on with courage and meant Hunt's absence down back wasn't noticed.

5 Viney - Wow. I reckon a few of their players went sideways when they saw him coming. Getting back to his best and almost took a nice hanger along with a super goal.

4 Lewis - Started slowly (probably a bit nervous). But huge after half time.

3 Hunt - Switch to the forward line also made Goody look a master. Please don't play him there every week - we have others who can do that role - ie: Kent.

2 Jones - As with Jack Viney, in everything and part of the reason why even with McEvoy dominating, we won the clearances.

1 Vince - I struggled with my final vote, but Bernie did stick to the game plan and tried to switch it a lot. And I don't blame him for not knowing we only had 15 second left.

Other than Viney very difficult to give votes.  Our "catastrophic" first quarter was as poor as I've seen us play and that includes some of our pathetic performances immediately post Daniher and during the Neeld years.  That we righted the ship somewhat in the second and then dominated the third only made it even worse. So, for what was largely a 3 quarter effort:

6. Viney

5. Frost

4.Lewis

3.Tyson - he is very harshly judged here

2. Oliver - far too much handball but at least he wins his own ball

1. Vince - we are a far better midfield unit when he is in the guts because his first instinct is to kick, unlike the rest of them who want to throw around 1 metre handballs

Jones was horrid in the first quarter - at least three kicks straight to Hawthorn and two critical fumbles at clearance where he had first hands, lost the handle and Hawthorn cleared for two goals.  He improved during the game as a player of his experience and stature should, but when we needed his leadership early it was sadly lacking.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
