Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 4

Well I'm [censored] because we should be 4 zip. Take everything out of the game that you can but for TWO weeks in a row we have been beaten by the opposition teams A graders it's as simple as that. We have no A graders in the mid field and really apart from Gawn no others at this point, and until we find a fyfe, danger, neill, Shiel, Martin etc we are going to hover where we are.  Real Champions always find a way to win.

Again we had NO LEADERSHIP.

This has been a constant problem for years and until we get quality leaders we r going nowhere.

This team and their performances really f a r k s me off and I've had a gut full tbh.

Ruined yet another weekend.

We have been led to believe we aren't there anymore.

Next week tells the story.

I wasn't led to believe anything.  Rounds 1-22 tell the story.  Absolutely nothing else.

Today was a disaster.  But some very positive signs all the same.  I'm still pumped.

Many on here think we have some given right to be final eight.  Competition is way to tough.  Having said that I have seen enough in these first four rounds to think we can still give it a shake.

Carried away? I'm fed up with the [censored] from the club, we have been rubbish for years and watching arrogance like they displayed today (they've no reason to be arrogant, they've achieved nothing yet) is galling. It really annoys me, talk about 'journey' etc when we can't put away middle of the road teams at home. Even worse will be the week of shite to put up with at work

I agree with everything you say.  100%.  Drives me mental.  I was referring to the 'carried away' thing because its actually not impossible at all.

But I remember in recent years just wanting a team that is competitive and has a chance to win.  We are certainly that.  We have no more right to be a final eight team than any other really.

At the game today and noticed they put Watts back for the last few minutes of the second quarter.

Good idea but he was badly outplayed when the ball came to ground and well... we know what happened.

Why didn't we putt Watts and a crumber back ... one on one ground play is and never has been Watt's strength

watts is the only real player we have

It was just so disappointing and I hate to say it but typical of Melbourne. They got to comfortable at half time and others pointed out that at 1/2 time that again a team managed to find a goal on the siren.

3rd quarter being there watching it, it seemed we thought we have got this and just stopped. The bad thing was there was no leadership to stem the onslaught.  Plus I didn't see many moves happening.

There were plenty of times today when we had no forward line. The midfield would look up to find no one there. Weiderman yes I know he got injured but it was like he had no confidence today or knew what to do. Plus he butchered that shot at goal in the final term. Im sorry but I thought Smith showed a lot more than Weids last week. But if we had a so called player up there as a target then that would have helped. Hope he enjoyed his 2 weeks rest.

We also missed easy goals and I still have no idea how Kent stuffed up that handball to Watts in the goal square who kicked it when the ball was already over the line and also Viney missing when he got that 100 metre penalty. Also looking at that final McCarthy goal, Frost spoiled the ball and hit it backwards which set it up for Cam.

We should easily be 4-0. Next 4 games are Richmond, bombers hawks crows. That will tell us where we are at.

Just very disappointed.

Oh and a message for the players. If you see Watts in the forward line, particularly the goal square and especially if he is one out, KICK IT TO HIM. He will mark it and kick the goal. Each time he goals for goal I never worry. He is a beautiful kick. a number of times lately he has led and hasn't been passed the ball.

How old are you? If you're any older than the age of 6, now seems an odd time to be fed up.

Logging off Demonland for the night - too depressing, I thought these kind of [censored] performances were behind us.  Might cruise the news sites, perhaps Kim Jong-un has fired missile somewhere or something, Trump and Putin are preparing the nukes - even that would just about be less depressing than the [censored] result of today's match at the G.

Four games in now and i am beginning to dampen my expectations. The pace of the games so far, has, to date been frenetic, but it was good footy today, or most of it.

The season is long, very long, and is not away from us yet. Track and Spencer today were very good. My take of us at the moment is we are going alright, have not copped a beating and we have good players to come in and stabilize things when things really get started. I go back to what i said about how i think we are going to be surprised at the end of the season as to who is and isn't in the Team.

Oh and just a word about the commentators. Someone said this before but i love it "unrepresentative swill"

Well, yes, but you simply can't win every game, it is impossible. This year is extremely even, and my point was simply that if we find that consistency, we are as good a team as any in the whole comp, perhaps bar GWS and Adelaide. Of course it is big if, but nearly every other side has similar "ifs" hanging over them.

There are certain posters who paint it in a way that if we aren't 22-0 at the end of the home and away, it is a failure.

great points FD.  Not all see it this way.  Its a real insight into the mind of an idiot is this forum.

Gutted at the performance, another game we could have won but did not. Disappointed in the kicking it back and playing keepings off in the last 2:30mins that put us on the defensive and gave Freo the heart to go on the attack and they made us pay. The lack of self belief in going forwrd and attacking is worrying.

The lessons from a couple of weeks ago of lowering our eyes and picking out targets instead of bombing long appears lost again.

Weideman's lack of possessions would be less of an issue if he applied any sort of pressure when the opposition had the ball. He flew into a few packs which resulted in goals for us but he is a total non event once the ball is on the ground or in opposition hands.

And when he had his chance in the last quarter to kick a goal he bloody misses.

Hogan and Lewis have cost us two wins with their stupidity in my opinion.

FWIW, I walked passed Hogan leaving the ground and he looked as ashen faced as me. I am sure he is fully aware of what his undisipled act has cost us. Not cigarette ash btw.

I wanted to punch something on the way out of the ground. I was that frustrated.

I swear I'm one of the only supporters in the MCC who actually uses their voice. It's supposed to be a home game with 28,000 (mostly) Melbourne supporters and it sounded like a library for the majority of the game. I know we've had some lean years, but I would have thought we'd be a lot louder these days.

Agreed on both counts. Surprised I didn't break the seat next to me when they took the lead back.

Sick of Melbourne supporters moaning and complaining too. Not in the 3rd or last quarter, but from halfway thru the first. Support the team ffs and stop with the "typical Melbourne" rubbish, it's pathetic

Garlett has improved out of sight by putting team first and continually using his pace to put enourmous forward pressure on when we are not in possession in our forward 50 which was often lacking last season.

Leadership, I thought Watts has shown it in the 4 games so far this season and gets little credit for it. My only disappointment was in the 2nd Q not giving off to Hannah for the shot on goal that he took kicking around his body.

We cannot have quarters like the 3rd and seriously challenge for finals. Another game we should have won but managed to lose.

i hope Pedo and Brayshaw have good games for Casey as we are running out of options at selection.

We'd have won the last 2 games with someone half decent instead of Sam Weideman.

5 posessions today, 4 last week, missing marks, weak at ground level, missed a gimme goal after his free kick in Q4.  Looks uncomfortable and unconfident.

Their final goal came after a Weideman turnover.  He must be dropped.

Very frustrated here folks.

I certainly don't expect Weideman to be like Hogan was in his first/second year.

But there's dominant, and then there's OK, or even acceptable.

I don't want anyone in our forward line who has no ability (whether because they're not fit enough or otherwise) to impact the game once the ball hits the ground.

He might learn from Hogan but if we lose games as a result then that's not the right decision.

Of course, we're 2-0 with Hogan and Weideman and 0-2 without Hogan. But IMO he's just not capable of doing enough when the ball hits the ground to warrant remaining in the team.

His lack of passion worries me. Look at Hogan when hes not having a big day....he runs up the ground, abuses his team mates, takes a mark or lays a tackle. I hope Weids was told to stay put because he made no effort to tackle or go and get the ball.

Make the 8? We have coughed up 8 points we should have won in the past 2 weeks, it is a very even season. No doubt we will claw our way into contention at some stage only to lose to a side we are heavily favoured to beat. You can see it coming a mile away

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
