We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Such a tough one, you have to give to get but I think Frosty has something that would be tough to lose. His pace for his size is exceptional, if he can tidy up he disposal some and keep the intensity high then he is a lock for each game. I'd have him ahead of Oscar.

Frost is depth, he would only be a big loss if we were competing in the footy olympics.

He's never going to tidy his disposal at AFL level because it's his decision making that's the problem and it's hard to fix.

If he's a part of getting Lever over the line then it's a no brainer...

If you were to rank the KPPs in terms of sheer quality, would Frost even be in the top half dozen btw the two clubs?

Talia, Lever, T Mac, O Mac, Kelly, Keath, Frost, Hartigan, Garland, Keilty, Dear...

If Frost was the make weight to get the deal done, I'd take it in a heartbeat

In terms of quality as a stand alone player, spot on.  However when putting a backline together, ideally you're looking for a variety of complimentary skillsets.  Frost's strengths are his speed, athleticism and ability to break the lines; his weakness is his disposal.  In a more technically skilful backline such as Adelaide's, Frost could excel by complimenting the players they already have.

"You mean all I have to do is get it, sprint out of defence and then bomb it long into empty space for Eddie & Tex?" Would be on Sams mind.

Our Defence already contains Hunt and Hibberd for our athletic sprinting out of defence, both have way more upside on their disposal

Nowadays that sometimes all you need to do.

Hunt does offer that element to our side, Frost however would overtake Hibberd at a canter.

Possibly, but what harm does it do to have him there for another year?

Given it's the last year of his contract next year and he wasn't even best 22 before he did his injury, he'd be taking a valuable development year off a draftee.

I'd say there's quite some harm in that.

Love the thought of Lever but Frost would be a big loss.

He'd be absolutely no loss if we got Lever.

Hardly.

One more year as coverage is not going to hurt us in the slightest.  I'd rather him there than have to potentially put faith in an unknown draftee.

Having said that, if Frost was still on the list then fair enough.  But if Frost were potentially used in the deal then I can see more benefit in keeping Garland on the list.

I wouldnt write Frost off. He has some flaws for sure but he also has lightning pace, can take a mark and is strong.

I'd be happy if we was a Lever for Frost swap of course but having both would give us some flexibility.

Anyone get the sense that the Macdonald brothers have formed a bargaining bloc? And if so, can anyone recall anything similar ever happening in the past?

Don't want to add to the can-of-worms, but if we got Lever I would prefer Frost over Omac. Sam adds a different dimension to the mix, and I think would form quite a formidable attacking ensemble with Hunt - while Frost, Nev and Hibberd reliably hold down the fort.

But genuinely think that may not be a possibility if we want to keep Tomald on side.

It's a little unprofessional on their part, if true. More so, if it was a Tmac move to draft OMac, or he'd split. But I doubt that, as he's a pretty mature guy and buys in. Cant think of a player wielding that much power ever. If you look at the Talia brothers, doesnt seem to be any pressure to draft one to play with the other.

On the topic of Frost v Omac, id leave it up to the coaches as they know who is ticking the boxes. Do we know whos had #1 defender also predominantly while Tmac went forward? Frost is all flare and dash, but one suspects that Omac holds down the fort a little better. We need stats (I'm lazy af)

I'm not so much concerned that Omac wasn't drafted on his own merits but that it may cause some ructions if he was jettisoned in favour of Frost when they're both performing at about the same level. Didn't the Macs sign together at the same time for the same length or am I completely imaging that?

Also, I consider Omac as Tmac/Lever-light, whereas Frost has other weapons. So although I prefer Frost over Omac generally, in the sense of bringing in Lever and keeping Frost ahead of Omac, t's more a matter of personnel balance and having a ultra-dynamic back-line.

I can see the attraction of Frost to the Crows.  They don't have a fast-running-take-the-game-on defender.  We have Hunt and Frost.

Both have one speed, more or less in a straight line with poor composure.  Both players need to improve those 3 elements of their play.  But I think a team can only really afford one with those deficiencies in a side.  So we keep Hunt and Crows get Frost and both keep working on their deficiencies.

If we get Lever and let Frost go it would suggest the club is confident of re-signing Oscar and Tom.

No!  What makes you think this?

Tom and Oscar are in totally different contract positions.  Tom is an UFA next year so he will be looking at all his options, regardless of what happens with little bro.

And, Oscar is more than good enough to earn a contract in his own right without being carried on big bro's coat tails.  There will be other clubs coming at Oscar next year!

It is really important to sign Tom up asap to avoid a UFA media beat up in 2018.  Last time he signed for only 2 years because he wanted to see how the club progressed.  He has his answer.  I think he will stay on a long term contract.  He wouldn't want to bail now.

...Hopefully, this doesn't derail the Lever thread to a Mcdonald thread but felt it important to ask for clarification on the 'Macdonald brother bloc' theory before people start giving it credence and I wanted to show why they are in completely different contract positions so are not interdependent.

I think Smith & Laird would could be considered as take the game on defenders.

Happy for them to take Frost if they want him as part of the Lever deal.

We definitely need to add class to our back 6...Lever with Hibberd balances out the team nicely.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
