Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Carlton dogged on us.

A club I genuinely hate.

Reminiscent of Trenner's sling tackle on Danger so long ago. Trenners got 3 I think because of the Crows medical report of concussion. Danger played the next week and kicked 6!

This is true, a palm heel strike is a devastating technique, Dermott Brereton broke Tony Free's jaw with this very action. Dont think arguing it was an open hand would really do us much good.

I've always found an open hand sufficient in the marital arts dc.

At least Hogan's reputation will grow to a player who don't take Sh!t from no-one and that in turn will strike further fear into the opposition.

Or they'll see his reaction as a sign that you can get under his skin and make him do silly things, and thus opposition backs will annoy him week in, week out looking for that reaction.

I'm surprised that the MRP haven't given Max 15 weeks for something or other, Jack Viney half a dozen for just plain being aggressive. But I do agree that having a go behind the play isn't smart.

However, I strongly believe that the AFL with the gazbillions of dollars they make through TV deals have a DUTY to (a) make the game explainable to foreigners and not open to interpretation from an umpiring perspective (who knows if the umpires are on the take given they're not full time) and (b) protect the players, but (c) remove any ambiguity from the sanction process. Mark Evans was on SEN this evening explaining the MRP have multiple means of grading any incident to achieve the outcome they're looking for - i.e. the ambiguity is inherently built in.

This dictatorship approach only falls apart once WADA become involved and the AFL can't self govern any more.

Well if it was the other way around we'd be calling for players suspensions. It was dumb and Hogan did it out of frustration. he didn't need to do it. Lewis's problem was his record. We can cover Lewis but Hogan, it will be tougher. I guess the thing is he gets 2 weeks off and comes back fresh against Richmond, hopefully ready to go and fired up.

It's to risky to appeal if both players get slapped with the extra week.

but cant believe thompson only got a week and  varcoe copped a fine. He ran past the ball to take the player out.

I still remember the Saints getting under his skin in the Elimination Final in '06.  The beauty was that Flash learned from it, and hopefully Hogan does the same (and does it a little quicker than Flash did, too).

I really hate Carlton. I was yelling at everyone and everything around me when they had the ascendancy in the second and third quarters.

Plainly, these are two very big outs and it takes the icing off the win somewhat. But at least we won - I'd be on a rampage with Lewis out for three and Hogan out for two if we also lost the game.

Anyway, Carlton can throw their toys. We have an exciting future. They suck. On many levels. Well coached though, defensively at least - while it was painful to watch a game played in our forward 50 with 36 players in there, it was pretty effective for much of the game. Bloody mongrels. Here's wishing them no success for a very, very long period of time.

Interesting. My memory of Flash was that after that he had one good year playing as a winger and HB, and players took to him week in week out, and every time, it curbed his influence.

Just cos it affected him doesn't mean it will affect Jesse. Hell, it might even spur him on and make him a better player. After all, some guys love pressure. I think on balance, it's more likely to be a hinderance. You have to assume players like Watts, Petracca, Viney, Jones... all get their fair share of sledging. And these incidents don't happen.

Sorry Dappa, I should have specified - I meant that he learned from it in time, not that he learned from it after the final against the Saints.

And yes, I agree re: Jesse.  It may have no affect on him at all going forward, and let's hope that this is the case.

IMO both deserved to be suspended but I don't agree with the penalties.

The MRP continues to focus too heavily IMO on the outcome and not on the action. As such, Scott Thompson gets one week and Preuss gets a fine because, presumably, their respective victims did not suffer any injuries. But Cripps suffered a broken jaw and Rowe had headaches and that makes the suspensions heavier for Lewis/Hogan. I don't think that's the right way to go about it.

I'm also not convinced Hogan intended to strike Rowe in the head, and I would view Thompson's act as "worse", but so be it. He shouldn't be putting himself at the mercy of the MRP.

The two of them have to accept they made inexcusable decisions and the club has to learn to control the aggression.

Caro just said on FC that the Carlton medical report 'did not mince words' and 'did Melbourne no favours'.  She said Carlton are angry about the 2 incidence and Melbourne are angry about the medical reports.  She said there is 'bad blood' between the two clubs.

It sounds like Carlton did a dummy spit and decided to make life difficult for us.  The medical evidence apparently is why we won't appeal - pretty difficult to argue against doctors.

They stitched us up!

she also said in the hogan case he was throwing up in the rooms after the game, no mention of headaches.......so which is it? and again how do you prove it was this incident when no on-ground tests done by medicos

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
