A lot of errors were made further up the field but our backmen as a group defended well and our zone was quite effective

Agree that our back line ultimately won us the game. Kept us in it when the Blues took over the midfield, before our forward line finally decided to play football

Thought Harmes was OK, especially in the last.

Your comments about Watts (a bit harsh, but not much) also apply to Hogan. His midfield play was really good, his forward play was ... not.

And I admit he made quite a few mistakes, but Tyson really has to go into the top group for the truckload of good things he did. So often in the right place at the right time.

I agree with you on Hogan there, similar to Watts.

Just watching Harmes off the ball, he looked completely lost at times. Swap him straight back out with Bernie IMO.

I agree that Tyson found a lot of the ball, but I thought his negative outweighed his positive today.

Individuals aside, the Dees as a whole were substandard today - I'm expecting some fireworks next week to make amends!

I thought today Tommy Mac's kicking was pretty good and has improved over the off season. He did some nice long accurate passes today.

Watts just needs to learn he can stretch the hands out to mark the ball, not always have to take it on the chest.

But can I say Neville Jetta he was fantastic today. Just goes back into packs and uses the ball well. A credit to him and his hard work.

Maybe our female team can teach the men's team on how to stick your tackles, we missed a few today.

Also what a great crowd today. Loved the noise.

Also on a side note does anyone else think out women's team deserved better in regards to there best and fairest? They had it at the game today in one of the rooms. I get that at 1/2 time they did a lap but surely they deserve there own night and time to have it.

Sometimes these wins are the making of a club.  When another club knows they can beat you and you know they can beat you it's not easy to come out on top if they're in the game for long enough.

I didn't want them to kick more than 10 goals and they kicked 9.  I wanted to score more than 100 points and we didn't = X

Our game-plan and ball movement is still a work in progress.

Fact: we were younger and less experienced than them

Fact: we we the youngest team of the 18 in round 2

Fact: we were the second least experienced from a games played perspective to Gold Coast

Fact: we had 12 players with less than 50 games.  No other club in the round had more than 10

Agreed re: women's B&F- at the ground I thought it was just a little show off the medals type thing, but realised it the actual presentation.

They deserve better that to have that ceremony in a back room at half time when half the crowds going for a wee, having a smoko and getting a pie. Poor form.

I thought he got us going in the last quarter. He didn't do much before that but he was just a live wire for a 10 minute period there and we looked dangerous.

We need to find better link up players though half forward in general though. Jeffy likes to (and is clearly told to) play close to goal, so we need those link up half forward players to have a bit of X factor that can break a line. Maybe Kent can be the one.

Mistake central.

Jones, Salem and T-Mac really solid and Garlett inspiring.

Tyson didn't need to come in as I said. 80% mistakes, his man beat him to the contest most times. Makes us look slower.

O-Mac will go straight out for Frost when Frost is ready.

Happy to get a win out of a performance like that.

Let's actually show up with some smarts and skills against Geelong though.

Otherwise #187 here we go

Well never let it be said I don't acknowledge a good performance. I THOUGHT OSCAR AND ESPECIALLY TMAC WERE VERY GOOD TODAY!!

I really dont care about the semantics. We won the bloody game. If we win ugly most of the time that's just fine with me.  We have had years of losing ugly every bloody week. So let's be happy with the win.

Surely there has to be a happy median between "dees are back and ready to play finals" last week, and "this is the worst game I've seen in a long time" can't please many on here, even when you start 2 - 0

Jones and Watts were easily the best ball users. Tyson's disposal improved in the last qtr

With a stronger midfield, Jones' game is going to a whole new level. Im loving watching some of those spearing kicks through the centre of the ground and how good he is in closer to goal as well. Its great to see after having to carry this team for a long time. he seems to be playing with more flair and attack.

A cut doesn't mean concussion but it is a worry that he gets hit in the head so often.

The Carlton player flew with his knee and hit him in the head. Could have happened to anyone. Brayshaw doesn't have anymore or anyless head high hits then anyone else.

Feel sorry for the kids sitting near me today. I lost it in the third quarter and unleashed some horrible language. This team tests me sometimes! Very relieved we won!

As long as you said sorry to the kids and their folks LT. I was watching it on a laptop in the bar of a pub in NZ and had to apologise to a few of the locals.

Nice work Pro. So it's starting to appear we are......

- Still a somewhat inexperienced team vs most

- More talented across the park than most

- Sometimes prone to putting in a fairly ordinary performance, like today, (even for a quarter or two) while also putting in better performances at times like last week but not yet for four quarters.

- Starting to find ways to win more often!

If so we are more than likely going to gradually improve from here, albeit with a few hic ups along the way. Finals beckons, provided we can keep our core group of best 25 to 28 on the park.

Righto, I've had a couple hours to fully digest the game.

- The McDonald bros were both good today. No major glaring errors today. For what it's worth, OMac is currently ranked seventh in the league for 1 percenters

- Jack Watts had an ok game today. Maybe not great, but I think many posters are overreacting by saying he should be dropped. He kicked two and set up a least another couple.

- Yes, Dom Tyson had some incredibly iffy moments with his disposal. But 32 touches, 11 marks, seven tackles and a goal is as elite as you get. He really stood up in the final quarter as well.

- For everyone concerned about Brayshaw, not all of our young guns are immediately going to find consistencey with their game. Give him time, he'll be alright.

-  Salem and Oliver are absolute guns.

- Weideman had some great moments today, especially that mark and goal in the first. He just needs to learn when to not play on following taking a mark as he gets caught a bit too often.

Also some stupid undisciplined acts from our leaders. Also at one stage Max was off and Watts was to busy fighting Carlton players and couldn't get back into the ruck and Oliver had to do the centre square contest. We lost focus.

...

Sorry this is just wrong. It's not like he ran from metres away to get involved in the melee. The melee started around Watts and he was trying to get away from it but couldn't.

Winning ugly is progress.

Lets hope next week we can hit up team mates 20 metres away.

Or look further up the field as first option and possibly hit up a leading player who is well in front of his opponent (or completely free inside or out) instead of trying to squeeze so many cute kicks to a team mate who is well covered 20 meters away! Watts did both of these on different occasions which is kind of a reflection on how most of the boys went on the day. A little bit of 'on', followed by a little bit of 'off'.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
