When Jones got the ball in congestion around half-back, you could almost see him consciously suppress his instinct to just bomb it, then lower his eyes and hit a target. When he does that, he's much more dangerous. Got the impression during the game that this happened 2 or 3 times, will have to check the replay.

Jones is possibly the most recognisable player in our side, is an AFL club captain who been playing with us for over a decade and has worn the number 2 against them on 15 occasions.

How embarrassing for them.

 

I also would have laughed at them.

Hard to tell on TV of course, but I didn't see any amazing tactical or structural changes.  We just turned up the dial. 

I have to disagree Nash.  There was no structural change, but we did change tactics, rather than reacting to the way the Saints were playing we got our hands on the ball, switched constantly back through the corridor (very risky at times, but paid off in spades) and kicked over their thin zone to blokes leading into space.  That's how we put on ten unanswered goals. The commentators were constantly saying how we have now lowered our eyes to pick out our targets.  The biggest tick for me  yesterday was Goodwin, the bloke can coach.  There was no panic, just reinforcing the way we want to play not the way the Saints were forcing us to play in the first quarter.  Not surprisingly it was the experienced players and our leaders that led the charge. 

Also telling for me was Goodwin's presser where he made special mention of how he wants Jack Watts to jump at the ball aerially and he was happy with his performance despite his low numbers. He wants that contest to either mark the ball or bring it to ground for players like Garlett, ANB, Hannan and Kent when he's back in. That is Jack's KPI that he needs to deliver on, be brave in the air (I imagine the second one is to keep his feet in contests).  

I wasn't expecting an arm chair ride from Razor Ray, but fair dinkum how many times do they have to illegally dispose of the ball while being tackled before we were awarded. I didn't notice the drag downs in the marking contest, but the worst display of umpiring yesterday was Gold Coast and Brisbane and Harris Andrew's constant scragging of Tom Lynch that was worse than anything SOS ever did in his day.  How the umpires don't pay free kicks for that stuff is amazing and hopefully it gets looked at during the week.  

Finally I thought Brayshaw and Salem while they went unnoticed were very, very good.  Both were hard at it and provided important outside run.

I said Clarry would get over 30.
I said Roo would kick at least 3.
I said Stretch would play a scorcher (26 touches)

I was wrong about us needing 2 rucks and was wrong about our winning margin but I will cop that.

Seriously feeling vindicated boys and girls!

Hogan player like Lance Franklin, Jeffy had the opposition backs panicking every time it went to a foot race.
Hannan was excellent and proved to be a good selection, Nifty Nev was his usual self.
CLARRY 35 touches (8 tackles)...Jesus christ, not bad for a kid with 15 games under his belt.
Trac showed good poise and Lewis showed his old head was essential.

But what I loved was that when we were on the attack it was so quick and ferocious that even the commentators couldn't keep up at times.
We straight up bullied them and our tackling and intensity were elite.
Bring on the Blue baggers on our home deck next week and lets really strike some fear into the comp!

My criticisms of Hogan are well know but yesterday it was the most complete team orientated game I've seen him play and loved his work rate and lack of hissy fits. Hope he keeps up the good work all year and his promise will be delivered.

Not really. Goodwin in his presser said he didn't change anything at quarter time, he just reminder the players about the game he wanted them to play and to get back to playing it. He actually just reinforced plan A.

He gets involved, has confidence and tackles.  

He burned a couple and made a couple of mistakes.  He strikes me as a smart kid who will learn from that.

Agree. What some people don't seem to notice, is that every possession goes to our advantage.When you have 26 of them that is fantastic.

Short answer? No.

I thought he played well but I think he was better because he played almost as a spare midfielder, I assume because Tyson was out, I've never doubted his ability as a midfielder I just think he is not good enough as a small forward. Kent is capable of equalling his pressure and is a much more dangerous forward, so naturally if fit he would come in. The luxury they have now is they can give Kent more time to get match fit while Hannan is playing his role and allowing ANB to play further up the ground where he is much better.

Imo OMac really needs to go back to the seconds and work on his game. 

He has the attributes but needs to get his confidence and skill level up. 

I don't know how he keeps his spot in the seniors.
