We beat the Bulldogs, Power and Saints last pre-season. Let's see in we can go through again undefeated, starting with the Bulldogs this afternoon!

Can't wait to see our impeccable midfield in action: Lewis, Jones, Viney, Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney etc. Plus, this has to be the first time all of Petracca, Brayshaw, Salem, and Oliver are playing at the same time.

Pumped for footy to be back today. Amongst a long list of things I am most looking forward to seeing the differences in our tall structures both forward and back, the impact the kicking of Salem and Lewis will make to our midfield ball movement and how much improvement is noticeable in Bray, Clarry and Trac.

Result nice but not important, more so the way we go about it and hope for an injury free day.

Looking forward to todays game. Hopeful for no injuries and generally a good showing from the players. Can forgive the skill errors at this stage, just want to see the game plan in action and good intent aroubd the contest.

I looked at the two teams this morning and I find it difficult to see us winning this game.

They are a tried and true combination that are fresh from winning the GF and while I expect our team is better than last year I don't see that a lot of the kids are capable at this stage of beating their Dog opponents.

Sadly the Dogs by 6+ goals if we put in a four quarter effort.

You struggle to see us winning anything so you'll forgive me for taking this view with a grain of salt.

You know that is crap wiseblood.

I tipped us to win ten last year and 13 this year.

I know it is difficult for some to see when we are playing a superior side but give a go.

I guess a defeatist attitude is disappointing for the first pre season game of the season. I don't expect us to win either, but that's not the sentiment I take into a pre season game. Much more to it than a win that means little in the grand scheme of the year ahead.

Should be a good game. I dont subscribe to this being a walk up win for the pups. Yes they're good, reigning Premiers even; but its a new year.

Bet they're not expecting to 'just' win.

Prefer to see it as a realistic approach.

When i think we can win i say it when I dont think we will win I say that too.

At this stage of our development I think the Dogs have a superior team.

I look at it more as last years 7th vs 11th.

I was just about to post the same.

Dogs were the best team in the finals, but finished 7th on the ladder.

I'm not that fussed on winning or losing, but with their best midfielder out and 5 less weeks preparation I won't be at all surprised if we get the chocolates.

That said, Dogs will rightfully start favourites on their own dunghill.

today is about seeing the game plan in a true competitive test.

intra club and drills are controlled.

hope to see extra development from our under 23s with Petracca Salem Hunt Jkh showing the results of the off season.

Unfortunately i'm not able to make the game (for reasons outside my control - we'll that's not entirely true i have instructions to get the house clean before going out tonight). I have a ticket if anyone wants it. It is $5 member GA ticket but i very much doubt they will ask to see a members card as you needed to enter a barcode to get it. So it will get both a member and non member in.

Late notice i know but if someone wants it PM me with an email address and i'll forward it through

Looking at teams on paper is always difficult for the pre-season.  the unknowns of training loads and motivation make these games impossible to predict.

FWIW I would think our preparation should be ahead of theirs in that we've been back at training for four weeks longer due to finals.

I'm surprised there is so much focus on the result and the margin.

I'm not that fussed at all about the result, to me the pre-season is about trying new things and getting the players to put what they've been practicing during training into a match-day setting (which isn't against their own teammates). It gives us three weeks to work out what has worked, what hasn't, what we need to focus on before Round 1, etc.

It's all about how we play, what moves we do or don't make with individual players and positioning, that kind of thing.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
