This is a very well written and argued post WJ, however I don’t agree with much of the premise. The Bombers have already been stripped of draft picks and had players suspended, effectively ensuring them the wooden spoon this year. You could argue that they got off lightly for their crime in the first place, but I believe that any further punishment would be a form of double jeopardy.

The Brisbane trade with GWS for pick #2 was fair and Brisbane got compensated for sliding down the draft order. And GWS effectively lost McCarthy and Treloar and other later picks to get pick #2.

And the Whitfield case is yet to play out and GWS will be punished down the track for bad governance if they are guilty. They will also be punished to a degree by Whitfield’s lengthy suspension.

I have also no issue with Brisbane being given a priority pick and I think the AFL needs to do more to help the bottom clubs so as to even out the competition. Although it wasn’t part of the finding, we would have got a priority pick as well had we not been found guilty of tanking and so we were given overs for Frawley leaving to compensate.

You make a valid point about the Riverina, which should not be within GWS’s academy and I agree with you on this.

Noted FT but it wouldn't have been a case of double jeopardy. In fact, at the time of the first set of sanctions it was made clear that these were on governance issues and there were possible repercussions if Essendon were found to have been involved in ADRV's. In addition, my argument is that because of the guilty verdict, the Bombers finishing position did not reflect that of a normal wooden spooner because they had a goodly portion of their list missing. They have therefore benefitted strongly as a result of their drug regime.

My issue with GWS is that they might well be punished down the track for bad governance in relation to the Whiftield affair but the likelihood is that they won't have as strong a list of academy players in the future as they have tonight. Hence, the delay works nicely in their favour. I hope that if they are found guilty as charged, the AFL takes this into account and gives them a harsher penalty as a result (loss of 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds) but I doubt they'll end up with any more than a wet lettuce.

The suggestion that we were not deserving of compensation because we "were given overs for Frawley" is incorrect. We did not get "overs" - we got the exact compensation that was appropriate as a result of our ladder position. We also applied the year before and got nothing.  And Brisbane hypocritically, were critical of any special consideration being given to Melbourne at the time.

No idea who we pick but I want to hear Jason Taylor say when he gets interviewed at the end that he couldn't believe the player was still available at our pick.

Kane Cornes looks like Graham Cornes got stung by bees.

That ends my draft expertise.

So happy to not see a Melbourne jumper in the traditional photo of the 'Top Ten' picks (on AFL site now) - we're ready to take the next step now and look forward to seeing some magic from Jason Taylor in picking late picks for us to develop.

Makes me sick to see the draft dominated by the Suns, GWS and Essenscum. May the pox descend on all their houses.

For a team that will comfortably take the minor premiership this year it is quite disgusting to see GWS have pick 2 ... they simply don't need the draft concessions, and don't get me started on essendrug having pick 1 ... equalisation my aR$e

I'm a little suprised by the top 10.

I don't rate McGrath at no. 1.

So I'll call it now, but Will Brodie (Pick #9) will be the best player of the Top 10 selections.

Here's hoping we get the "Luke Parker" (whoever that may be) with our first selection to come.

EDIT: I'm also a big fan of Bennie Ainsworth.

Hey, I forgot this was on.  Logged on for a cursory 5 minute look and saw the WELCOME TO... thread.  Pretty different to the previous years of anticipation!

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
