very interesting times, if Pickering or Lewis declares his intentions publicly it will seriously ramp up the pressure on the Hawks and make Wright look like a world class [censored]

Agree with this - the silence from both Lewis and Pickering is very interesting indeed.  I think it confirms that he is still livid with the Hawks and hasn't made up his mind yet, even though the Hawks have made it clear they want him to stay.  Once we hear from either of them then we'll know where we stand.

Hawthorn are in no position to enforce his contract.

It's up to him.  Still think it is better than even money that he goes.

Not a word from Melbourne either, interestingly. The only camp commenting is Hawthorn.

Classy from us, yet again.  There is no need to comment on anything yet unless we know, 100%, if he is going to be coming to us or if the deal is dead in the water.  No point in discussing it publicly right now while we are still doing things behind the scenes.

This is a huge PR battle we've won and the Hawks have lost either way

suddenly Melbourne is a "Destination club"

Hawthorn is publicly under the microscope for disrespecting and pushing it's most loyal veterans out the door in order to bring in a player on massive overs with an injury history.

reckon Hodge, Gibson and Burgoyne would be nervous now.

Lewis called Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin directly on Thursday night and is believed to be less than pleased with Hawthorn’s handling of the situation.

Melbourne offered Lewis, who is a free agent at the end of 2017, a two-year contract, which would guarantee him an extra season in the AFL.

Now is the time when Lewis and his management team leak to the media to put the pressure on the Hawks, make them look bad so they agree to trade him.

We must be offering him an assistant coaching role in the future too to seal the deal? I think captaincy is a bit of a stretch. He may have to give up that dream. He could mentor a future captain.

I want to be in the room when he and JV have their first chat - could be interesting considering they've spent the last 3 years trying to take each other's heads off.

I think we also mentioned he would likely get his 5th flag as well.

Oh. Someone mentioned offering JL the Melbourne captaincy to seal the deal but I thought that is unreasonable, maybe only if it was a mega-deal for Fyfe would you consider using it as bait. (Stk should offer fyfe captaincy next year)

Re coaching, I have a theory that maybe JL is in an identical predicament to Mitchell (2 years left) but wasn't offered the similar coaching opportunities after his career from Clarko, on top of all the other issues.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
