2 extra years is good for the club. It will then know just how good he is, rather than be paying long, big contract, largely on promise.

Good point.

Also gives us 2 extra years to plan for what will inevitably be a mountainous offer from other clubs when he becomes RFA

Ball is back in our court. Kudos again to  the MFC for the way we played this.

Hey @TGR, what do you think of this?

Amazing stuff, made my hour long drive into work so much better when I heard this.

I wonder if AFL Trade Whisperer made it to 4K followers on twitter?

In the Fairfax papers trade article today:

"Convincing Jesse Hogan to open negotiations on extending his contract beyond the end of next year is the biggest priority.

Michael Gleeson"

I couldn't agree more.  Great move by Jesse and the club unless there was a Dangerfield type player up for grabs in the trade period, retaining Jesse is so much better than anything elese on offer.

Jesse will have a press conference in Perth @ 4.30 EST.  Looking forward to hearing him declare himself a Demon!

Now, the club can really get its list management strategy going.  Just a couple more key players to lock down.

Go Dees!!

Wonderful news, I really couldn't see a way we could have "won" if he'd left...Goody has the best Melbourne list to work with in a long time that's for sure!

Yes, even if we got an early first round pick, what's the value in that if you can not retain them once they actually become dominant players, rather than just players with high potential.  Incubating players for other clubs like we did with Scott Thompson and $cully is a no returns game.

I just hope we can lock in the gun group of young mids we have coming through like Pratracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, Hunt and Co when it comes time.

Wow, you go off the Internet for an hour... But absolutely brilliant news!

It might be an obvious statement to make, but I'll be the first to predict that Jesse is going to have an absolute belter of a 2017 season. Getting this contract done before the start of next year will surely remove a lot of stress from Jesse's mind.

For those who missed his interview on trade radio (myself included), Josh Mahoney will be on SEN at 10:25

Who were the media who said he would go?

Very sensible decision on his part. With an uncertain family situation he would not have wanted to commit for too long. So everyone a winner here. It suggests to me he really wants to be with the club and be part of building the team.

Well done, now for that kicking rehab.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
