A top 18 pick for Tuohy LOL

This sort of evens out the charity trade they got for Dangerfield.

Fark Geelong.

Yeah, Geelong are going nowhere. If Dangerfield doesn't win the Brownlow again, they won't get near the top 4. Tuohy is a half-decent role player, but Hibberd is a better bet.

I look forward to 2-3 years time when both Scott brothers are out of the game.

As it stands the Cats didn't have a 2015, 2016 and now 2017 first round draft pick. What if all other clubs simply refused to give the Cats another first round pick (no matter how good the offer)next year or in 2018? What would happen then?

They're digging a hole for themselves. But they sort of have to in order to get anywhere during Dangerfield's career. They can't go back to rebuild mode.

Did i just read right that the Cats are paying a first round pick AND a player for Tuohy?

just about spat my arvo tea all over the table.

Smacks of Brisbane's attempt at a last surge of glory before their older champions retired.

I don't hate Geelong enough to wish that future on them, though.

It's amazing isn't it!

So to use this year as a guide, it would be Smedts & Pick 16 for Tuohy & Pick 25. Now on face value it isn't to bad.  Certainly not good! But given next year Carlton will likely climb slightly and Cats drop in a strong draft, it looks worse and worse IMO.

Have people missed the part about Geelong getting Carlton's 2nd rounder back?

Geelong are backing themselves to win it next year (pick 18) and for carlton to finish close to last with Tuohy and Gibbs going (pick 20/21).

Smedts is a spud and Tuohy gives them something they don't have. To move back a few spots is hardly the terrible trade some are alluding to.

I do. Half my family is Geelong. A very, very arrogant club.

That uneasy feeling you are experiencing is perfectly normal with large quantities of amphetamine. Just ride it through.

So GWS have picks 2, 15, 31, 37, 51, 55, 60, 69 and 109, while we have 57, 59, 84.

I cant see them turning over enough players to use most of those picks so I wonder if we might be able to better our draft position?

Without being to unrealistic, pick 59 for 55 and 69 (55 & 60 if they're generous)?

Do you really think Norf will take that long to dump ?

anyone think barlow is a chance to come to us? cheeky pick up for essentially nothing could do us no harm..

With Hibberd , Lewis and Melksham Joining the team next season we have to draw the line somewhere and put as many games as possible into our young brigade in Petracca, Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver , Tyson, Hunt , Viney,Stretch, etc.so too many aging mids might even set our midfield development back a bit.

We have to back ourselves now.

Spots in the team will be difficult to come by.

 Nah.

we need to start getting rid of players to free up list space for the minimum 3 spots we have to take to the national draft.  Only got 1 spot on the list at the moment. Need at least 2 more gone.

Yeah I feel like aside from a few minor moves with Dunn and maybe a draft pick of two our exciting trade period is done. It will be interested to see if a few of those stalled trades get done though. GC seem to be firmly standing their ground on Jaeger (good on them too), if he goes into the ND will he do a Luke ball and put a huge price on his head to detract other clubs from getting him?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
