My understanding of the issues surrounding Rock at Brisbane is that he has clashed with the rest of the group through being too blunt and harsh over what he sees as a lack of effort, commitment and professionalism. In essence, he's talking to his team the way Neeld did at the MFC and getting a similar response. The media were talking about this last year before it got lost in the narrative surrounding the coaching mess. If that is the case, then his perceived issues could be more about his leadership than his quality as a player. In a more professional side he would be fine.

This is the nutshell of what I perceived as Rockliffs raspy style of communication & leadership.  He seems an old fashioned strait ahead type.  This can cause today's modern players minds some angst as they're ego's cringe & cry.

I didn't say that.

I said Brisbane knew nothing about the complex trade posted.

"Are you working on a complex deal  involving other Dunn and future picks with Melbourne for Rocky?"

"No."

People  I trust are now talking about this. I'm approaching cautious excitement. Will be working the phones tomorrow.

Sorry, i was going from (poor) memory and paraphrasing a little.

I take it from your last line the Rockliff rumour may have some traction.

 I share your cautious excitement:cool:

Reckon you may have had a different response if you just asked "Are you working on a deal with Melbourne for Rocky".?

Easy for him to honestly say no if Dunn wasnt a part of it.

Keep posting bloke, i love your work this time of year.

Mixed emotions, he definitely doesn't seem to be a natural born leader and perhaps being thrusted the leadership was a bad move for him and for the club.

If we get him, keep him out of the leadership group.

Its funny about this trade period, I really expected us to be very quiet but wow we could make some pretty big moves. Not locking him in, just approaching this time with interest.

And Brisbane say they haven't heard anything re Rockliff from Melbourne either.

Make of that what you wish.

No, Brisbane haven't said that. Robbo said that of Brisbane. Big difference.

It'd be one of the deepest and most talented midfields in the league. Oh and we have the AA ruckman.

Someone just posted on Jordan Lewis topic that ....Jordan Lewis will be playing for dees in 2017, Rockliff  is 90% sorted /over the line and with genuine sad news  (that added by me ) Chris Dawes will be delisted tomorrow/announced. However my suspicion is he will be offered a rookie spot.  No way the club would simply give him the flick so easily me thinks some kind of role?

As good a bloke as Chris is.... His body is broken and is only being weighed down more by the wallet that we filled...

We re-signed Pedersen, so Dawes can therefore be moved on.

Much as I like Chris, and I feel there are things he's done around the club that we don't see that has helped our young list, I just don't see a way in which he can break into our 22 and be there consistently without some very bad things happening to our stock of tall forwards. Weideman is younger and will of course be given more of a push to aid in his development (he also didn't look our of place), we have help onto Pederson who I would have ahead of him, and then we of course have Jesse and Watts as certainties to the side. Hulett as well showed some ability at VFL level this year and similar to Weeds could be given more of a push in his development.

I just don't see a future at Melbourne for Dawes. What good would a rookie spot do for us and for him? He'd be better served putting himself out on the market, any club that has a developing forward line would suit him as it allows him to be the focal point while the younger guys find their legs.

As for Rockliff, not doubting the validity of those who have posted regarding Rockliff but until something more solid starts to come to light which includes the media I'll keep my excitement level at "chilled". I'll say this if it does happen, very well done to not only Melbourne but Brisbane for being able to keep it between them.

I get the impression Rocky has to be dealt to unify the playing group. Fagan wants to build something, and Rocky is a distraction.

If only we had another pick in that 30-40 range this year.

It may be that the club has some off-field role for him?

Rockliff is outspoken with a poor filter, but he means well.  He challenges coaches and his fellow players.  A change of scenery to a club with a developing culture is probably in order.  I have faith in Goodwin, McCartney and the other coaching group to have him pushing in the right direction.

I rate Rockliff's ability to play midfield and forward.  Our coaching group is now second to none and I have faith he could be successfully implemented into our gameplan and be more damaging than he has been recently at Brisbane.

Lewis, Hibberd and Rockliff would be nothing short of incredible for a club that now rates going through the draft and had so little to offer up for trades.

I fully suppirt the strategy, because we have the best group of young players already stockpiled in the league.  If it all comes off the sky is the limit in 2017.

Spot on ProDee.

Rockcliff is an imposing midfielder who always looks strong and assured entering the forward 50 and also when competing for the ball in the forward 50.

I remember him taking a mark against us at the G a few years ago when the game was in the balance, and he just owned the situation. He took the mark with complete authority, and then calmly and assuredly slotted the ensuing set shot. I remember thinking at the time - geez, I wish he played for us.

Hibberd, Lewis, Rockcliff, all of our required players having agreed to extensions, and Taylor's ability to find good players deep in the draft - this would be a simply amazing outcome in the circumstances if it comes off.

Can't remember exactly. Ox said something like: "any news on the tom rockliff to Melbourne rumor" and i don't think Terry had any knowledge but the talk went to what a Rockliff, Lewis and Hibberd would be for the club as a trade period result (positive talk). I think the talk was that if it happened then Brisbane would have to cover some of his salary (which they said they would be happy to), and that this is similar to a rebuild performed by a club years ago where they got rid of all the older talent and started again (Rockliff, Hanley , etc.).

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
