Not sure a 69 year old (69 next month) who hasn't coached for nearly a decade and whose last appointment as coach was a failure would be my choice.

If that's your criteria you're basing it off then fair enough.

The other side of the argument is more robust.

There would have to be players wanting out as quick as possible,

I see your point regarding the house visit, poor form all round, surely Leppa could have gone in to face the music if he knew it was coming

Might have been a tactic to avoid the media. If so, poorly thought through. All that will happen is that the media will congregate at his house rather than his now former place of work.

Blake Caracella, Nigel Lappin, Brett Ratten, Mark Williams or Jon Barker.

They'll go either high profile or with an existing connection to the club/Fitzroy.

Would hate to see him leave but BRENDAN McCarthey would be a great fit for the Lions or even Richmond

BRENDAN McCartney would be a better choice, even without the capitals.

I don't think Brendan will be offered a senior coach role again. There were some rumblings from the players at the time and other clubs, through player managers, are aware of these things.

I've pondered this question for a while, it might even warrant it's own (pay out) thread, but:

Has any assistant coach under Mick Malthouse succeeded as senior coach? It seems all/most of the Clarkson proteges have done exceptionally well.

I'm sure i've missed a few (particularly early days), but have any of the Malthouse understudies made it? I realise there will be assistants who have spent some time under Mick as well as other senior coaches, so I'm really thinking of those where Malthouse was the key influence.

To start with: Watters, Neeld, Buckley.

Feedback appreciated from those across the Malthouse assistants.

Thanks

The bloke who is under the most pressure to lift their game next year in my book would have to be the "Heavenly" appointed J Worsfold.

With all the perks they got, and are to get, nothing less than the Eight would suffice. Or else there goes another new Board and the works except for "doc"

He has been bitten once, can't see him wanting the grief again, Jade Rawlings may be approached

Sadly, our Jimmy told Dean Bailey over the phone that he was sacked immediately (and we did not have a replacement coach).

So it can happen anywhere.  Who knows why Brisbane/Leppich chose to do it this way.

For some posters here:  Glass houses and stones comes to mind...

Same goes for Stynes if that's what happened.

Can't be serious.

Proven premiership coach, will be given time.

As much as we all hate them let's be realistic.

McCartney went for the Essendon job last yr, close second to Worsfold...

Can't believe the Lions sacked him via phone. What the F**K

I don't know if anyone has added this, but Leppa actually asked the club to do it via phone if he was going to be sacked.

Didn't he lose a game as Essendon caretaker coach after Hird got the sack?

They should be merged with the Gold Coast to stop the waste of time and money.

I always felt Leppa was the back up option.

It says a lot about the basket case that the Lions ultimately became. Despite it being clear that PR was coming to us, they put all their eggs in one basket by sacking Voss in the belief they could land Roosy. Despite Roosy's admitted emotional attachment to the old Lions, there is no way he would have gone to such a shambles of a club.

Left with arze left out of their trousers, I felt they thought that if they couldn't get the best available former player (though how much of a genuine connection Roosy could have to the Brisbane Lions is debatable), they would just go with the first available one.

It almost warmed my heart in that that was the kind of ill conceived, cockamamie kind of thinking that would have come about with us from 2008 onwards!

You heretic!   Burn him at the stake!

I think that was more show Worsfold was always going to get the gig

Of course EssUndone  definitely needed a pharmacist with a track record after what they had so unfairly been put through. Maybe he dispensed some antidepressants?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
