Max's Stat

We have all sat back and appreciated the season that Max Gawn has produced, but how about this for a stat:

The top 5 ruck/rover combinations in the comp this season

50 - Gawn/Jones

49 - Gawn/Viney

47 - Gawn/Tyson

42 - Naitanui/Priddis

42 - Hickey/Armitage

A nice and deserved accolade of Max http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/max-gawn-set-out-to-be-the-afls-best-ruckman-in-november-2015-now-hes-achieved-his-goal/news-story/0993a5c7a2638889442d31ed71d26f5d

Essentially, its about him not being shy about saying he wants to be up there with the best ruckman in the league.

And he has 'walked the talk' by actually achieving this.

I love Gawn.

Having top is great. Top and second amazing... all top three is insane!!!

On a downer tho. Nik nat is only 8 off top and hasnt played half the season. He better not beat him to top.

From an article in the Sun today...

His 807 hitouts for the season is a clear No.1 — 123 more than North Melbourne’s Todd Goldstein.

But his contested marking ability deserves as much recognition as his tap work.

Gawn’s 37 contested marks is the most by a ruckman, and his eight against Hawthorn was the second most by a player this season.

It is a shame the Brownlow has become a 'midfiellders' medal.  Otherwise, another season like that and M.Gawn11 would give it a decent shake.  (And follow in the steps of the last ruckman to win it, J.Stynes11).

Currently 10th on the list of the most hit outs in a season ever.

That is truly phenomenal and look out once we convert that to scores from stopages more effectively.

I rekon another club could offer 2 mil a year I've 10 years and he'd laugh too, seems to absolutely love this place which is great

Can I ask where you sourced the stat from? A website?

I loved him making the statement last year and continuing with the line this year, but I honestly didn't expect it to happen this year. I expected him to be in contention and probably finish 3rd behind Goldy and NikNat. Absolutely fantastic, his confidence is building every week and it's building with the team.

Top bloke too!

I think we have 2 chances for AA selection - Gawn as #1 ruck and maybe Jack Viney on the bench

I remember when Russian got an AA nod. He was great that year, but nothing like Gawn is this year. In 12 months has turned himself from a promising player into an absolute monster!

Brilliant season, best yet to come I feel.

But on a side note, most of that foxsports article is based round a misquote. He never actually said he wanted to be the best ruckman in the league, he was refering to being the number 1 ruckman at Melbourne. He tried a few times to correct it early on but now it's come true he just ignores it and carries on. Which is hilarious on so many fronts

Amazing that. He did try to correct it a few times, and I'm sure everyone that mentions it to him would know by now what he meant, but they still run with it. And so does Max. Classic.

Next year he should set sights on being the best player at Melbourne.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
