He could not fill the same need at the Tigers why would he at the MFC?

Because somehow despite our woeful last decade I have always felt that Melbourne was ahead of Richmond, even when they were playing finals, they're a basket case.

I too have never rated him, but if he can play a role then that's all we need.

There is a heap of players I would take for fwd/ruck roles ahead of Vickery. He is 100% useless, and a [censored] to go with it.

Zac Clarke, Lobbe, Tom Nichols, Shaun McKernan, Juice Newton, a bean bag.....

you win flags by consitantly bringing in the right people, and he is definitely not one

Something tells me he might be a good pick up. Strange feeling as I have never been a  fan.

But he fills a huge need for us.

The role is a huge need for us, whether he fills it or not is another matter.

On past performance I'm not sure we need a lazy player, with no football IQ who can't really ruck...

Kicked 36 goals as a 21 year old in 2011 and has never got back to that number. Has been bogged around the 15 games, 20 goal mark the last few years.

So it's been 5 year since he's been a consistent performer.

He's lazy and dumb, but they are things that can be improved especially with a new start and confidence in his role.

The free agency aspect of him is the key. If the Tigers match the deal and force a trade then there's no way I'd want him. But for free on a 3 year deal of generous but not crazy money...well he has to be worth thinking about.

Reading between the lines of Mahoney on Trade Radio today, it sounds like we'll be targeting a forward/ruck type in the trade/FA period, and that will determine whether Dawes gets offered a contract.

Apples and oranges.   We need a forward / ruck, which Dawes isn't.  We do still have Pedo

No point getting a player solely on a needs basis. Because that is all it is. Vickery is bog average as a footballer.

Doubt if he has ever been BOG.

How much would the bean bag cost to get across?

Sorry but did you actually listen to what Mahoney said at all? Was pretty clear from it that Dawes' contract depends on the trade period.

future first round pick i'd imagine for tippett? he's clearly the superior footballer to vickery or clarke, but he's also on double the wage.

too expensive a risk.

HUN reporting that Vickery has agreed to a 3 year deal with Whorethorn.  It's not really surprising as they were always into him, but still interested to see how he goes out at Waverley.

On the very day his manager said he is also looking at other offers. Probably did the trick and got another year and more money.

Bottomless salary cap over at Waverley of course, now for O'Meara and Mitchell. Gibbo must be taking a pay cut to make space.

I'm glad he's gone to Hawthorn, two reasons.

1 Means he's not coming to us

2 He'll take some of their salary cap and prevent them paying top dollar for someone else

Vic and Fitz, now there's the start of a good forward line.

Two of the worst hair cuts in the comp.

Will be overjoyed if Hawthorn trade in "the human Dalmatian".

Their supporters will be able to check out his guns 2 or 3 times a year, he flashes them when he kicks a goal.

I hope RIchmond match the offer hahah that'd be hilarious.

Hawks have basically nothing to trade them.

We could swap him for Grimes (bearing in mind Grimes delisting probably doesn't come into effect until after the Trade Period)! Collingwood or Hawthorn won't have much to trade.

You're making a wrongful assumption that Richmond would want Grimes.

Hawks offer a 2 year deal - that's going to lower the compo.  Likely to be 4th or 5th band - around 38 or 44ish.

Tigers find out compo before deciding whether to match or not.  They might match to try to force a better trade but the Hawks have to get the O'Meara and Mitchell deals done.

Exciting times!

Compo will be rubbish. 2 year deal won't be for big $$$. Tigers should match and force a trade.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
