Yes we need a Tippet style Forward who does well in the ruck. Yes Vickery plays there.

That's not enough though. You've actually got to be a good footballer. Vickery's handful of ok games have been on the end of dominance from his team mates, help in the forward line from a gun in Riewoldt, and a forgiving nature from his coach.

Anything is better. second or third round pick on development track is better. The only reason he'll still be in the league will be the lack of talls. He is a terrible footballer.

Well I'm thinking that Spencer should be given a chance this year (to play 60/40 ruck/forward).  (Loving how dangerous Max looks up forward now.)

If Jake can't make a combination with Gawn (which he did in the Geelong game) & we have no-one else ready for next year, maybe a one year deal with Vickery if he costs very little & they think he'll minimize his d---head factor.

Dawes should be delisted or traded if anyone will take him.

I"m staggered people are talking about this spud. Firstly because the word is he's off to Carlton and secondly he's the sort of player that Prenders would have recruited. Some ability  amply supplemented by 'faux' heroics.

None of you have watched him play if you think he would be a good pickup. The only thing in this thread that makes sense is we definitely do need a forward/ruck.

Vickery is a crap mark for his size, average athletically and does [censored] all around the ground. The only thing he is good at is set shots. Picking him up would literally be a waste of a spot on the list.

Forget Vickery, we should wait and throw the kitchen sink at Peter Wright 12 months from now. Now there's a forward/ruck who can play. A Victorian boy too.

Absolutely in a heart beat!

Think he just signed a contract extension with GC.

He'll be taking his signature imaginary marks in the VFL next year. Casey don't need another forward.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and hoping this isn't a reference to Vickery's on-field seizure/concussion incident.

If I'm wrong, that is very low, even for you.

His set shots have been unusually good this year, but I don't think it's the norm. Agree with everything else. He's equal 44th on the goal kicking list- I'd rather have Dean Kent (also equal 44th).

"Seizure"? Righto then...

I'm trying to think of a player I'd less like to recruit. Zac Dawson perhaps. But it's a close call.

Really cannot stand this sniping [censored]. Complete spud to match. I tell myself I could cheer for any player in a red and blue jumper. Vickery would be the ultimate test.

Trying to remember if I've ever seen Vickery outside forward fifty & I honestly can't.

Been watching the Tigers a bit lately too. Love watching them lose.

I think what we can take out of this thread is that there is a need for that third tall / pinch hitting ruckman on our list, and it wouldn't hurt to see what's out there.  I don't think Vickery is the answer, and it's becoming even clearer that players like Dawes and Pedersen aren't either.  Spencer can ruck alright but he doesn't do much else.

Who else is out there that we can actually get?  I don't think Majak has a good enough football IQ to be the player some think he might be, and outside of that I'm not sure who else there is worth recruiting.

I'm not really excited by Vickery.  He's on par with John Butcher for me.

Two Metre Peter is OOC at the end of 2017.

I believe he's already had approaches by at least four Vic clubs about returning home for 2018 and beyond.

2m Peter looks like he'll be a gun hey

I could name two others. Lindsay Thomas and Hayden Ballantyne.

This bloke has been found out. Too inconsistent and lacking concentration on the main object of the game, to win the ball and use it well. Too much energy expended on tough guy routines. Not a reliable kick.

The fact even the Tiges are thinking of getting rid of him having indulged him for so long says all we need to know. Stay well away.

If they're not ready next year they won't make it 'BA'...

How's Weideman tracking physically? Will another pre season be enough for him? Then I look at a Darcy Moore ...

I hadn't seen that before and it made me shudder.  Concussion just gives me chills in general - I suffered a severe one when I was young (8 or 9?) and the feeling of complete confusion about everything that was happening around me was terrifying.  I get reminded of it every time I see things like that.

I accept that some will see it as being a bit touchy (and I couldn't GAF), but I agree that there isn't much funny about it and jokes about it are in poor taste.

He should be ready to step up if he's good enough 'BA'...having missed a bit of footy in the juniors I'm guessing this was a year to set the foundation.

I'm a believer if a KPP is going to make it he will play top level footy early and show something so if he doesn't step up next year I would be concerned.

Not that I'm a huge fan, but Zac Clarke could fill that need.

Otherwise I reckon we should draft Declan Keilty are give him a go.  Has a bit of talent.

Wasn't intended as a "joke" as such, but I see your point. Will delete.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
