POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 17

Demonland

Poor disposal under pressure. Just so many kicks off half-back or into our forward line ended up with a St Kilda player. Even our better players like Viney and Jones are just as likely to turn it over.

We also still have too many players who are fringe-22, who if they're a little bit off are not up to scratch: Harmes, Vandenberg, Grimes, Hunt.

The better team won today. More pressure, cooler heads.

inept handball is not the issue. We are trying to develop a fast Adelaide Crows style game which is demanding of hand passing accuracy under pressure and takes time to get right and involves mistakes inevitably.

I am putting today down to a Darwin high temperature high humidity hangover. Robbie is right. This was lost partly at selection - not enough fresh legs and too few 'ins'.

But I am really sick of losing to those frauds.

Sometimes I really hate this club.

I cannot remember the last time I went through a whole season without feeling disgusted at our performance on multiple occasions.

Games like today are no longer good enough. There are no longer excuses for a consistent lack of effort or urgency. We should be past this [censored] now, but we are not.

On a separate note, rubbish coaching performance today. Questionable selections again. Also not really acceptable given the money sitting in that coaching box.

Lost it on Thursday night.

Was that because they stayed out too late?

I'd like to know how it was lost at selection though.  Please name the players at Casey that would have changed that result and had us win the game.

credit where it's due, St Kilda know how to stick a tackle and that was the difference today. We couldn't match them in the physicality stakes. I would think White will be extremely lucky to be in the 22 next week, ditto Grimes. O Mac is next to useless at the minute, I don't care if Dunn doesn't follow instructions he's clearly a better player than Oscar at this stage. Next week promises to be a shellacking and I'll be there to witness it.....yay!

Second half

Saints 7.14 to the Dees 5.3

We should have lost by a lot more.  Darwin experiment continues to hold this club back. The Saints will go past us at 1000 miles per hour.

Learnt nothing from round 6. Darwin isn't an excuse. That was 7.5 days ago. No excuses with the team named. Mental toughness is still an issue as much as I thought it had improved.

Nathan jones- I've been the biggest fan of yours over a long time, but time and time again, when we need leadership you are nowhere to be seen. When we got behind today you, and other leaders, showed nothing. Viney was the only one who stood up.

I know we are young and I know we are "educating", but if we are educating why do we make the same errors every match? The kick outs, the amount of guys jumping for the same ball leaving opposition players free on the ground, the way our forwards crowd each other and the way our midfielders either don't run hard enough, or can't get to contests to help out defenders.

I hate st. Kilda, but I wish our boys had as much heart as some of their players. Pathetic effort from the coaching staff again. No plan b, reactive to the same ways they opened us up time and time again, and the playing group with the same lack of mental toughness or dare that has cursed us for years on end.

we needed fresh legs and didn't select them. the sooner we get rid of NT games that are not followed by a bye the better.

Please srop saying this. Freo almost beat Geelong with two days less break

It is such a [censored] weak [censored] excuse. Who comes in that would possibly have made the difference?

Yes he was outmuscled far too easily on at least 3 occasions

What is wrong with Jones? Disgraceful display again. Been doing it for over a month now.

Jack Grimes, just hang up the boots. You're an embarrassment.

The lack of leadership in this group is still painfully evident.

As predicted, I'm sure we'll say that the Freo game took it out of us.

Viney kept trying all day. He is a leader.

Aren't blokes like Jones and Vince sick of losing?

Missed Frost's run and carry today. As soon as they locked down Hunt off half back we lost all our drive.

How we haven't worked out how to play that ground I'll never know. We overpossess every time as though the ground is the size of the 'G.

Hickey completely nullified Gawn in the ruck, to the point where Watts was actually better. He needs to learn how to combat ruckmen jumping into him. At least he put it on the scoreboard.

Our blokes like Hunt, Petracca, Viney, McDonald, Hogan and Brayshaw will be alright, but geez, we can't get games into them quick enough.

Thoroughly disgusting day. And St Kilda records toppling all around us.

Handball happy as usual. Brayshaw's decision- making was woeful kept hand passing into trouble. Grimes gone, White very poor, Wagner average. St. Kilda more desperate.

Essendon and St Kilda games this year have been among the most disappointing I have been to on 20+ years of going to the football.

This was the difference for mine. I'd love to see the ineffective tackle numbers. We let them get disposals away in a tackle all [censored] day, while they wrapped us up and forced incorrect disposal or HTB decisions, or at worst stopped our run. We need to sack the tackling coach and find someone who can do the job.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
