Anyone see Eberts fall to the ground and Mitchell possibly "spoiling" but cupping his hand on eberts shoulder and pulling down on it to increase the weight on his fall? Eberts in hospital spitting blood and no commentator said a word about it. Long bow to draw, due to how well Mitchell disguises his brutal little snipes though. Brutal.

I can't wait for Petracca vs Hodge. I reckon they've got perfectly matched body-types. Beasts of the G. Let's hope Christian survives though. Hawthorn will be a brutal opponent.

I thought the player waiting for the ball to arrive and holding his ground had a right to be protected from someone coming at them running with the flight of the ball and sticking their knee up to spoil. It was up to Hodge to spoil without making any contact. The rules must have changed since I played the game

For all the talk about how uniquely 'even' the competition is this year there's 7 weeks of footy to go and no team outside the 8 can make it, and Hawthorn are a game clear on top of the ladder with a decent run home. I could give a flying about the 'suspense' of whether or not GWS or Sydney finish top 4. 

I'm bored, but I'm holding onto the hope that North fall in a giant hole. That will make me happy.

Yes looking at it again it seems the sniper has been at it again but too subtle to cite him but a helping hand like that can be the difference between a soft and hard landing. I am surprised Sam didn't accidentally cork him as well on the way down. When will the football gods finally even things up?

I thought Mitchell clipped Ebert on the side of the head before pushing his shoulder down.  Mitchell's jump and arm movement show he never had any intention of going for the ball - he takes his hand from under Ebert's arm then over it to hit him on the head.  Deliberate for mine.

I really disliked commentators quickly and repeatedly saying 'nothing in it' as Ebert was writhing in pain.  Obviously keen to do their bit to 'whitewash' the hit (and a hit it clearly was) so he isn't cited.  Hope the MRP look at it closely.

Very tired of their sniper tactics and their smug coach.

They are beatable, but there is zero margin for error against them. You need to beat them in contested ball and stop the outside string, because they are all connected telepathically. Their ability to string together handballs and taps to one another the way they do...well, you can tell they've been playing together for a while.

The Bulldogs play a very similar style of play, and dare I say I've seen patches of Hawthorn-style strings of play from Melbourne this year. 

They are on top, but they are far from their best. The thing is that the league has caught up, but more teams are at the same point, so you have teams winning and losing against each other, while the Hawks stealthily take top spot. 

I really do think we can beat them.

To add to it, Viney wasn't a candidate for toughest player. So the whole thing was basically null and void.

I take some heart in their top three possession getters yesterday being Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis, with it falling away after that.

The cliff is coming. They'll drop all the way down to the depths of 7th or 8th soon enough.

I am fascinated by the way the Hawks keep the ball moving at any cost. With a loose ball under pressure, they always hack it forward by hand or foot. The don't waste time trying to pick it up. Players downfield are ready for this and make sure they are first in for the resulting next contest. No other side does it the same. Last night they did it dozens of times and it nearly always put them to advantage at the next contest. I don't recall Port using this tactic. And they killed us in the wet with the same tactics while we fumbled adnauseum.

Wow.

Didn't notice it the first time round, but certainly did that time. 

And did Ebert vomit or was it blood coming out of his mouth immediately afterwards? Whatever, he was clearly in big strife, and was definitely helped down by Mitchell.

I've said it before on these boards, Mitchell and Hodge are the two dirtiest players in the league, bar none. I absolutely loathe them.

The 8 hasn't changed since round 6!  not great when we finally win a few games and cant even dream of finals for long

media are trying to say how exciting it is with the 8 moving around and being close, but if you support a team outside the 8 you couldnt give a rats

Im sick of Hawks winning but I've got nothing but respect for Hodge.  goes in hard every time, so mentally tough. always lifts when he needs to and leads brilliantly.

aggression goes over the top sometimes but that happens to players that play on the edge

Simply appalling umpiring by any measure. 

They completely lost it when they failed to pay a mark to Westhoff.  And then they had the temerity  to say they didn't see it!  There is only 4 of them on the ground,  and was plain to see from one side of the ground. 

When Westhoff complained he got a 50m paid against him.  Then they realised they had stuffed up, they tried to give soft frees the other way to even up.  That only compounded the lousy decision with even more lousy decisions.

They went very close to losing any control of the game.  And even more so with the tactics employed by Hawthorn which were never called.

there was also a lot of blatant throws (by both sides) not paid. but this is true of most games. they need to tighten up the rules re throwing/handballing
