I wouldn't want to pay overs but I think North would be interested in one of our surplus mids.

As as for Daw himself I've always had a feeling he would eventually click and become a genuine player with some real X factor. Nothing suggests otherwise in his time ON the field anyway. Tall, lightning fast, developing forward/ruck that seems quite coachable. If Brown hadn't come on the way he had he would have 15 odd more games under his belt for sure. I'd love for this to happen for us.

Acceptable trades IMHO;

Straight second Rd pick

Hunt (Lumumba to replace)

Salem with a pick to go our way (purely as Melksham is to come in next year)

Kent (small forwards are overflowing)

ANB (he is too talented to fall behind Trenners once he returns)

I'd love not to lose any players but that's not logical going forward and I've tried to be realistic in what it would cost to get him here. ANB, Kent and Hunt might need pick exchanges to come into play as well to get the balance right. Thoughts?

No.

Why would we want a guy who truly can't play at the highest level. He does a few good things but will never be a very good player.

You are convinced that a 25yr old 195cm veteran of 17 games will not make it? Based on what if I may ask?

So we aren't looking for a forward/ ruck at the moment? It's not a hole in our impressive depth?

Bizarre.

EDIT: He's rookie list material at best. Why on earth would we trade one of our promising youngsters for him?

We might be, but I don't think Daw is the answer, and all of the above trades would be overs for him.  We would be able to find something elsewhere I think.

This is always the mentality when it is the club we love, our emotional investment in our players make them worth more than they are. He has been developed nicely, purely my opinion of course but I just think he will come on in a big way next year

We seriously need a decent forward-ruck though. Very few ready-mades around so either we spend big, invest time, or get creative.

Jake Spencer has him covered.

I would dry retch for a week long if we traded anything for him.

I wouldn't say emotional investment, more that you've mentioned 4 players who aren't worth giving up on yet.  Hunt, Salem and Kent have spent the majority of the year in the seniors, while ANB has been on fire at Casey.

I do see your point, but I'm not so sure he is the guy to fill that gap in the side.

You realise he was rookied this year? Unless he starts starring for North, I see him being delisted at the end of this year.

North would be laughing all the way to the bank with all the trades you listed. Hypothetically speaking I would expect a trade for him to be more like our 2nd round pick for Daw and their 4th rounder.

And that would only be if we were interested. I doubt we would be.

It is, but how would Daw fix it?

I thought this thread was a joke but it appears you are serious, is that the case?

I'm not sure why North keeps him on the list but I wouldn't expect it to last too much longer, I wouldn't trade the boot studder for him and we don't even have one of them any more.

Never. Gets lost during a game.

Daw isn't up to it. Nice football story, but the fairytale ends with him maybe squeaking out 50 games at AFL level.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
