Reckon we're looking at...

B: Neville Jetta, Tom McDonald, Tomas Bugg
HB: Lynden Dunn, Heritier Lumumba, Christian Salem
C: Bernie Vince, Dom Tyson, Josh Wagner
HF: Jack Watts, Sam Frost, James Harmes
F: Dean Kent, Jesse Hogan, Angus Brayshaw
Foll: Max Gawn, Nathan Jones, Jack Viney

I/C: Cameron Pedersen, Alex Neal-Bullen, Ben Kennedy, Jeff Garlett

I like this but I suspect that Hunt will stay in at the expense of ANB (although I am relaxed if ANB debuts)!

I agree with what you have said based on current form. I still think their best, which they are a long way from playing, is pretty good.

Exactly right. Richmond's best has been able to beat the likes of Hawthorn, Sydney, WCE and Freo over the past 3 years. We've never been able to get close to these sides. They're playing god awful at the moment, but have shown in past years that they can turn it around. Hopefully it's not this week.

Re the punt: I got on the Dees for $2.80 two weeks ago. BTW, I've had some luck this year, putting $5 on Danny Willett @$81 to win the Masters.

Good get, Willett. Lucky for you Speith tightened up.

My man says he's fine but the club is playing all injuries cautiously, I guess because we have depth to cover atm

Anxiety at it's optimum. If we haven't the faintest what's going on thanks to their cards being close to their chest. Over at Tigger Land they're pulling their hair out looking for an advantage, deep down knowing selecting Deledio comes at a risk. It's a long season.......If I were Dimma, unless I was 100% confident, I wouldn't be selecting him.

I cannot see any way Deledio comes in. It's an enormous risk for a round 4 match. Round 4!

Had the sub rule been kept then maybe he would have been given the green vest to start.

But considering he was barely even allowed to kick a football up until last week, it would be ludicrous for them to play him.

I reckon they'll leave Astbury and Lids out of the 22.

Big advantage for us as long as we come to play.

Is that like the advantage we had when we played Essendon without 12 of their best?

Ahhhhh I'm turning into THAT guy!

It was an advantage, up until the opening bounce when we'd already decided we had the game won.

Just wondering if I have missed something.........Has Petracca suddenly played 100 games and is Brownlow favourite whilst I wasn't looking.

I really like the kid but he hasn't played a bloody game yet.   The way some posters around here are pumping up his tyres is just mind boggling.   It reminds me of a certain No1 draft pick we got a few years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to when he does play but until then he is just another draftee that shows great promise.

We had the reverse scenario last week. Vince out and Garlett still unavailable, whilst the Pies included Sidebottom and Varcoe. This week Vince and Garlett return whilst Tigers have question marks over Maric and Deledio.

As you say, we need to have our mindset right.

I fail to see your point, we named Garlett and were also not conviced of his fitness. We play sunday night and thats a long way from thursday night. I suspect that neither club would name a squad if they didnt have to.

I agree with Saber - Gartlett and Deledio are completely different situations - Garlett has the preaseason and season games in his legs to get through a game - the problem is his ankle, whether it has recovered. Deledio's issue is match fitness - all the running in the world doesn't get you match ready. If he is not match ready today he won't be any fitter Sunday night. Gartlett's ankle in 3 days can look a lot better than today.

IMO there are only two reasons to select Deledio and they know the answer already - they will either role the dice and play him or have no intention of playing him and it is a ruse to disrupt our planning ( I think these little subterfuges are silly as coaching panels prepare for all scenario's when an opposition player is suspect). There is only one reason I believe we have selected Gartlett - they believe his ankle is good enough now and will improve further in 3 days to allow him play.

To the poster begging for this to not be a repeat of the Essendon game, I can't see how this would be a repeat in the event of a loss.

Richmond were supposed to be a finals contender while Essendon were supposed to not even win a game. Plus we're not even favorites in this one.

A loss on Sunday night would not be the epic disaster that the Essendon debacle was. As long as we have a crack and play 4 qtrs, the loss would merely be a slight hiccup.

To borrow a cliche, if we play like we did the last 2 weeks, the result will look after itself.

Ok i see what you mean but if they dont name him then they wouldnt have a choice. I dont think they intend to play him either, maybe he is 20% chance of playing but they name him then they have the choice later.

desperate times, desperate measures. I am not so sure he won't play.

To Richmond, is a half fit Deledio better than anything they have in the VFL ? I don't know. The difference between Richmond and Melbourne is that I ( we ) desperately want us to win - Richmond basically have to win.

For this reason we absolutely have to be switched on as I fully expect Richmond to come out firing. I fully believe that if we come out switched on, we are a better team than Richmond and will win.

(what I like is that we are in a different head space than previous coaching eras - previously Petracca and maybe even Trengove  would have already been playing and hobbling Gartlett would have probably played last week - that's because we would have had no alternatives. Even playing Brayshaw three weeks ago was old time thinking and Roos came straight out and said afterwards that it was a mistake)

Round 5 but the sentiment stands. Did you just completely erase the second round from your memory?

ANB has already made his debut. He played games last year and impressed on occasion (he kicked three goals in our win v the Cats).

However, to paraphrase the legendary Jack Dyer, I hope that if he plays this week, ANB will make "an even better debut" the second time around.

Jeez you post some tripe.

Why is petracca any different to anyone else on the list? The club has repeatedly said regarding draft pick "it doesn't matter what pick they were when they get here, they are just another player who has to work hard"

Now I want to see him debut as much as anyone, but at the expense of garlett, who is one of the best small forwards in the game? Why has there always got to be hidden motives? He's around the mark. At this point in his very brief and interrupted career, he's obviously between 22nd-27th on the list.

Generally the club won't name a debutante if they're not going to play, regardless of where they were drafted. Same thing happened with Wagner a couple of weeks back. I don't think it's about Petracca being a #2 pick, it's about a young kid playing his first game.

Having said that Petracca would have already been told he was in the 25 as an "emergency" and the chances of playing were slim so probably more of a deal for supporters than the him.

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
