Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 5, 2016

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Flying down to Melbourne with the family this morning. Wife's Grandmother's 99th birthday this weekend. She's done well, the old duck dear old thing, organising her party on the afternoon of the Demons game (and Trac's possible debut).

The wife is pumped: gets to see all her family (and the 99yo is a genuine matriarch).

The kids are pumped: get to see all the cousins, grandparents, great-grandparent, go on a plane (and a tram) and go to the 'G at night-time.

I'm pumped: get to go to the footy.

Of course last time we all came down for the footy was the Essendon debacle last year. So, my apologies in advance, Tigers by four goals.

Petracca won't play if Garlett gets up, which he probably will. Nor ANB, but they'll take ANB as emergency. Final listed bench:

Pedersen, Hunt, Kennedy, Garlett

Emergency: ANB

Agree with this strategy.

Casey play Saturday night, it makes sense to use ANB as emergency for Garlett for Sunday night and miss Saturday night's game.  He is fully match fit and has great endurance - a week off wont hurt his preparation.  If Petracca is emergency and Garlett plays as hoped then Petracca misses a week's conditioning and that's not good for his preparation..

Mahoney:

“We now consider him as available for selection and if Jeff is unable to get through tomorrow's main session, Christian will be a chance to debut."

“Alex has played at a consistently high level at Casey for the last few weeks and comes into the squad.”

As much as I would love to see Petracca play this week, I'm happy to wait a week if it means Gartlett gets up. He is worth a few goals out of nothing each game either kicking them of creating them and we really need him playing. Nobody else in our team creates goals out of half chances like he does and that's worth its weight in gold.

We will see, but I don't think so. Garlett mustn't have came up.

Jeez you post some tripe.

Why is petracca any different to anyone else on the list? The club has repeatedly said regarding draft pick "it doesn't matter what pick they were when they get here, they are just another player who has to work hard"

Now I want to see him debut as much as anyone, but at the expense of garlett, who is one of the best small forwards in the game? Why has there always got to be hidden motives? He's around the mark. At this point in his very brief and interrupted career, he's obviously between 22nd-27th on the list.

Sorry if someone already asked this but i really don't wanna read through the whole thread. Is someone going to the training this morning to let us all know how Garlett goes?

Edit: Then pays attention to other threads and realises there is a whole one on training... how awkward

Fair to say that without our experience in the back line when compared to theirs that we are a much younger side. I still think our best can beat their best (just). It all comes down to who brings what to the table.

Thanks - I like this analysis.

We're a year younger and a season's less games again like last week.

This time next year we should be as mature as the Collingwood and Richmond sides are now.

Hampson out of the squad and Townsend in.  You watch, they'll play Morris and Townsend and try and go the knuckle on the young Dees.  Hardwick learned it from Sheedy....the apple never falls far from the tree.  I think our boys will acquit themselves well if this transpires...

If Garlett is fit, he comes in with Vince.

There is a 6 day break after the Richmond game to the Saints game. I think Oliver looks like he needs a rest and he also needs to be looked after in his first year. If he is rested, he comes in fresh against the Saints.

I don't think Roos will drop Hunt after one game, which was ok, so the unlucky one could be Matt Jones.

Fairly accurate if I say so myself.

And I like that our maturity sits in the back half with Dunn, Jetta and Lumumba which is exactly where you would like it to be.

Thanks for the stats, although I disagree with your conclusion.

Richmond have rubbish inside mids (who do they have outside of Cotchin), no quality small backs and a crapp game-plan, which relies on possession and (invariably) slow ball use until they're ready to pull the trigger.  They're not kicking well, which is a must with their game-plan and slow ball use has been smashed against sides that press hard and have a strong team defence.  They're killed on the turnover.  They could only manage 27 I50's last week against West Coast and average 44 for the season (we're 54).

If we bring the right effort and intensity I see this as a definite win due to being better around the stoppages and with a better game-plan.

What benefit does it serve Richmond to play games with Deledio, as far as team selection goes? They're crazy if they play him without match fitness; why even bother naming him unless you have every intention of being stupid enough to play him?

I fail to see your point, we named Garlett and were also not conviced of his fitness. We play sunday night and thats a long way from thursday night. I suspect that neither club would name a squad if they didnt have to.

I agree with what you have said based on current form. I still think their best, which they are a long way from playing, is pretty good.

Knowing  our luck he'll probably play 80% game time, kick 3 goals and have 25 touches.

Going to be a big weekend for a couple of the boys.

Get Viney to go see how Delidio's bodys feeling and maybe Bugg to ask Cotchin a few questions.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
