Eleven Pies players test positive to illicit substances

I can't see why anyone would be surprised given the prevalence of drug use in Australia in 2016.

It has to be said though that given the example of Keefe and Thomas who ingested WADA banned substances when using recreational drugs any WADA compliant athlete would have to be bloody stupid to follow in their footsteps.

So we've had 34 Essendon players systematically take performance enhancing drugs, and now this allegation of illicit drugs at Collingwood (and possibly worse at other clubs). The AFL has implemented this drug policy, and if these allegations have substance to them, then the AFL have a lot to answer for. There really needs to be an independent committee that oversees these areas, and not an AFL that is beholden to the AFLPA.

Soon we will be seeing footballers with shaven heads, eyebrows and every thing else and their squeezes will get to admire their full metal Brazilians.

Instead of ice baths (no pun intended), it'll be Nair baths.

My cricket team was the same. But there were only 11 on our list.

AFL drugs policy was always designed to hide the problem.

Always should be one strike/one week. That would stamp it out quick smart.

There is no doubt (like the rest of the community) drugs are a major problem. If the AFL wanted to show some leadership on a healthy lifestyle the policy would have changed long ago. In my opinion it a small microcosym of the control and command style at the AFL which worked so well for them with Essendon. Probably largely a problem of being the biggest fish in town. You sometimes see the same dynamic with other large organisations that dominate their space. When you have pretty much absolute power you lose perspective.

The AFL is not helping the players solve any problem they have they are just helping them hide it. It seems to me totally misguided. Time for a moratorium (to give players time to sort themselves out) and then introduce a no tolerance policy.

As much as I dislike Collingwood they are not on their pat here and its unfair to single them out when its known other clubs have the problem.

Was listening to SEN, I know, and they noted that McChins was going to deny the number of players but also release a joint statement with the AFL saying neither of them really know the number as the results are kept from them as part of the code.

Also this from Age article, [censored] poor response Ed.

"Until the clubs have actually got some control over it there's no point talking to the clubs. It's an AFL and AFL Players Association matter."

We have no idea where we fit in this.  I wouldn't be casting stones even if we do come out relatively clean. Can happen anytime, anywhere with anyone - no matter how good your club culture is.

And what's wrong with a good stoning?

I wouldn't go crucifying the Pies for this as I would say it is fairly likely we had a few players in the same boat. It's a pretty common theme these days and is in no way isolated to one or two clubs. I would imagine every club would have players who have been caught for this judging by the night life these days.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
