Misson's comment was that Spencer has just started working "outside", I interpreted that as progressing and that it's more about incremental work load and condition steps now rather than injury recovery per se.

It certainly didn't sound rubbery like it did with Frost last year. I guess we'll know soon enough!

yeah, I think he'll have to build up his muscle tone around the injured foot,  & pickup lost fitness.

actually what we need is a 1st ruck in reserve. different from a pinch-hit 2nd ruck resting somewhere

Spencer?

Or do we need a 3rd, 1st ruck in reserve?

That was my point, Fitzpatrick could have been that player, if not injured.

fitzy could never be a 1st ruck (other than go through the motions)

How many dinosaurs can we carry? Should we have kept Jamar?

As ManDee alludes to, Spencer *is* our first ruck in reserve.  The fact that he happens to be injured is bad lack.  You can't carry three genuine first rucks on your list; at some point you just have to accept there is some risk that you'll lose both your first rucks and one of your skinny rucks will have to step up.  This is a problem faced by every club.  Mitch King wouldn't be the first well under-developed ruck of all time to be forced to play.

Unless you're Geelong.  Stanley, Smith, Clark, Blicavs, Vardy, as well as the raw Lucey and Read (both 200cm +).  I know Blicavs doesn't play as a pure ruck man, but he has in the past. Clark and Vardy are perennially injured and you'd have to doubt their ability to remain on the list if they can't get back on the park this year.   I suppose when you've won three premierships you can over compensate in some areas. They seem to have put a lot of eggs in only a few baskets.  It will be interesting to see what happens as the year unfolds - particularly if Hawkins and Henderson/Lonergan are injured.

From how last week was reported in the media, I'm sure Dangerfield could fill in as a ruckman if needed. As long as he's got time to heal the sick and multiply bread and fish at the same time.

Very good.

Hawthorn think he is ok as a forward/2nd ruck - Oh hang on that's exactly what we need. Who do we have? Frost/Pederson/Orient are?

sorry couldnt resist being a smartar$e!

still dont think Fitz is up to it though. once spence fit and playing casey we should be right for 1st ruck

Great get La DC

Cant help myself!

X + y = 6.1

X = y + 4.6

Ie Y +4.6 + y = 6.1

Ie 2y + 4.6 = 6.1

Ie 2y = 6.1 – 4.6

Ie 2y = 1.5

Ie y = 0.75

Ie x = 5.35

SO

(2 x 5.35) +  (4 x 0.75) = 13.7

Anyone seen Max King?

Not on injury list and not playing.

Mystery injury of the month?

Didn't he play on the weekend against the Dolphins?

Just as well we are playing footy and not chess.

Max King didn't play Saturday Night, so whatever it was, it must be minor.

He's pretty important now given Mitch King and Spencils injuries.

Big red, I got the right answer and I did it all in my head, not using any equations but when I look at your breakdown of the maths I am astounded how I did it!

Yes ruck stocks are very thin...

Last week: Grimes emergency (Tasmania)

Out: Dawes Spencer Newton Max King.

Hopefully Max King & Newton gets a run this week.

Sadly, Mitch King's season is over and Bernie is on this list published by the AFL but he's not really injured - just suspended.

Max King and Ben Newton are not on the list and hopefully, this means that they will play for the Casey Scorpions this week.

Chris Dawes (calf) 2 weeks

Jay Kennedy-Harris (hamstring) 3 - 4 weeks

Mitch King (knee) season

Jake Spencer (plantar fascia) 3 - 4 weeks

Jack Trengove (concussion) test

Bernie Vince (suspended) 1 week

Also no Jeff Garlett on the list but if he does play, his presence will be offset in terms of numbers by Aaron vandenBerg.

Assuming Garlett's available, he comes in and Angus Brayshaw would come in for Bernie.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
