We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Richmond - delusional?

Maybe Richmond will beat the Crows next week... a loose maybe. Wouldn't rate them a chance against West Coast in Perth.

So, when we meet them in round 5, they'll be fresh off a hiding out west and the best they can hope for out of the game is to claw their way to about 9th. We'll be looking to hunt down a vulnerable team that is allegedly above us, and a few significant inclusion will have had their 4 weeks in the VFL. That'll be an interesting game.

After us they've got Port, Hawthorn and the Swans at the 'G, followed by another trip west to face Freo.

Wow, wouldn't it be hilarious if they were 1/9 by round 10.

Some horrid play by both teams through the middle and around the ground in general. Comedy capers. BOG Houli. MVP for the pies was without doubt  the Umps who helped them to stay in touch and then steal victory from the jaws of defeat in the last 10 mins with assists from many Tigers in particular Vicory's brain snap short pass to no one when a shot at goal would have sealed the match or a draw at worst.

Watch out tomorrow Demons. We could be next on the chopping block courtesy of an "umpire lead" miraculous Essendrug comeback similar to tonight. Will need to be 10 goals up (or more) at half time to avoid a repeat I reckon.

Cotchin had the worst 38 disposal game in AFL history. Awful.

No idea how that pretender is considered a better player by the majority of the media than Nate Jones.

Richmond are short on genuine talent, but they can play good team footy. That gets them unexpected wins. It is always the same thing for them - brain fades and ridiculous decision making at vital moments, especially late in games. When they are on song I love their brand of footy but they do not have a premiership-winning list, andHardwick is not a pemiership-winning coach.

Both teams played some terrible footy and I hated seeing Collingwood win. But that win will paper over some cracks for a while I reckon. Fasolo the only one up forward who looked dangerous and he had the help of the umps. Their midfield is not setting the world on fire. And so many skill errors. We are expert in identifying lousy footy and both teams last night served up a double sized portion.

The pies had divine help last night in the dying stages of the game.  the umpires gifted the Pies opportunities inside the 50Mtrs.

* that mark that wasn't to Fasolo never had it in his grasp.   it just stayed ahead of his finger tips.   no hands around it.  =  goal

* that pass out on the outer flank by Tiges that eventually went over the line.   free kick to Pies  kick to to top of square  =  goal   game over.  what a waste of an outcome & a battle.

The pies played a 'defencive frustration',  keep the opposition & crowd quiet tactics,  harm minimisation early 1st half...  not burning up there fitness energy.

They went more attacking after half time.

I wonder if the pies have had a short Pre-Season,  in the hope of running out the season stronger in September?

Adelaide MCG - 50/50

Eagles WA - loss

Dees MCG - loss

Port MCG - loss

Hawks MCG - loss

Sydney MCG - loss

Freo WA - loss

Bombers MCG - win

North BA - loss

Suns MCG - win

Lion MCG - 50/50 with Beams and Rocky

Port AO - loss

Bulldogs E - loss

Bombers MCG - win

Hawks MCG - loss

Giants SPOTLESS - loss

Pies MCG - loss

Cats MCG - loss

Saints E - 50/50 they are now mentally shot

Swans SCG - loss

They are in massive trouble, and they just extended Hardwick's contract to stop this kind of speculation. I am aware they beat Hawks/Freo/Port/Sydney last year but I don't think this will be the case this time around.

Hardwick will be the next coach sacked, the club gave him an extension to end speculation? The pressure is only going to worse. Missing the finals would have to spell the end.

All the more amusing now. Wonder if we'll be returning to this quote with belly laughs in a week's time?

I think it's pretty clear the tigers are in for a pretty significant re-build.

This list is not going to get them anywhere near a flag, they're full of overrated, average players and when the club finally moves Hardwick on they're going to need to start from scratch and try and get some real talent in over a few seasons on the bottom.

There's a toxic level of denial at Richmond about the quality of their list. You'd think three consecutive elimination final losses would turn the tide, but they remind me of Carlton during the Malthouse years. A total inability to admit what everyone can see: their list is very, very average.

Cotchin's the softest captain in the league and seems to hate having the gig, but they actually have very few players worthy of replacing him. Their entire structure seems to collapse as soon as Deledio doesn't play (a regular occurrence) which indicates a seriously flawed gameplan.

I was there on Saturday, brother-in-law is a Toiges man. Anyway, they play with the same level of uncertainty as Melbourne does at times. Hospital handpasses, lack of trust in one another, looking around asking questions and blaming one another after goals. I think Rance is majorly overrated: his positioning at times is shocking and his inability to respond to quick changes of the ball is shocking. Houli is their most important backman. If he goes down they would bleed another 4-5 goals a game, easy.

Like Melbourne, sometimes it isn't a matter of changing coach or bringing in good players. It's a cultural issue.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
