I have a feeling Hogan is due to kick a bag soon. Hopes its this weekend.

I liked what he brought to the table last week - some deep work and a fair bit up the ground.

Much better coaching - Hogan is a natural centre half forward and I am not sure he will be kicking bags whilst he is marking the ball up around the centre but whether he is kicking themselves or passing them off  - its all good - as long as he is in the game. When he is in the game stuff happens.

We're a cert.

We always match up well on them and we're even better this year.

Essendon gave us the fright we needed. I don't think we'll ever play complacently when we should win again.

I thought we would never play complacently again after the 2 point loss to the Saints last year.

Agreed, I loved Hogan's game on the weekend. Wasn't the star but he played his role incredibly well while Watts' got most of the chocolates. He was leading up the ground which is something we didn't see much of during the opening two rounds. Loved his big grab in the third quarter as well. Regardless, he will still kick 50+ goals this year.

Nup. Essendon was a turning point.

Lets hope your right, just want to see that intensity that was brought against North week in week out.

I am confident we will beat Richmond because the new game plan was always going to take some time to bed in. In addition 3 new players (Kennedy, Bugg & Oliver) and now 5, in which to learn how to play together and how each other plays. Also the coaching staff are learning the best'fit' for each player.

One of the really interesting things I have heard Roos say over the journey was in the last few weeks. He spoke about the players not being in a position to give them a spray to g them up as it wasn't what they needed or responded to. He spoke about how the players were looking for answers and wanted to learn and know why things weren't working. Roos seemed really pleased with this approach from the players and noted that the coaches had taken this on board and adjusted how they were doing things in order to become the teachers to a young group who were hungry to learn and improve.

I think it is fantastic that both the players have such a thirst for knowledge and improvement, and that we now have coaches who can recognise that and change the way they do things to get the best out of the players.

I made a bet for a rather excessive amount of money with a richmond supporting mate, roughly 10 years ago, that we would make a grand final before they did. In the last 2 years he has been telling me that i better have it ready for him and i keep responding that Richmond are in the process of a fake rise and really need to look at their list as a whole and start pretty much from scratch.

Nothing sweeter than beating Richmond and further highlighting to him that at this stage in both lists development I am more likely to see one than he is.

Never saw so much anger and/or ridicule here and elsewhere after our loss to Essendon. Maybe the line in the sand has been finally drawn? This scenario kind of reminds me back to 2001 when a mostly chronic mediocre Brisbane had an indifferent start and  then powered home  to win the flag to the surprise of all. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Rd 5 Geelong v Nth at Skilled 2007. That was Geelongs line.

Found this a really interesting graphic from BigFooty, from last Friday presumably:

Not hard to see what Richmond's problem is, as far as gameplans go. Short, easily intercepted kicks and handballs in defence. They collapse badly against high-pressure teams because their high-possession gameplan doesn't stack up under pressure, mostly because of poor skills and lack of leadership (sound familiar?)

If we go into this game highly offensive with manic pressure, we give ourselves every chance to win. If we're dumb enough to fall for the Essendon trick of allowing them to play keepings off while they get cheap goals when we leave holes in defense, we will lose.

Roosy's record against Hardwick would indicate he's long worked out how to counter the Tigers, and it looks like most of the competition has caught on.

I think we match-up well with Richmond, better than we do with Collingwood imo, but either way it's still a 50/50 contest. Really depends on if August Richmond or April Richmond shows up.

I hope you factored in some CPI. Could be worth a heap!

Good bet in any case, Richmond massive pretenders. We at least know where we're at.

Richmond are a mess and as Clint alluded to they won't play finals.

Pies MCG - loss

Adelaide MCG - 50/50

Eagles WA - loss

Dees MCG - loss

Port MCG - loss

Hawks MCG - loss

Sydney MCG - loss

Freo WA - loss

Bombers MCG - win

North BA - loss

Suns MCG - win

Lion MCG - 50/50 with Beams and Rocky

Port AO - loss

Bulldogs E - loss

Bombers MCG - win

Hawks MCG - loss

Giants SPOTLESS - loss

Pies MCG - loss

Cats MCG - loss

Saints E - 50/50 they are now mentally shot

They are in massive trouble, and they just extended Hardwick's contract to stop this kind of speculation. I am aware they beat Hawks/Freo/Port/Sydney last year but I don't think this will be the case this time around.

Hardwick "they were cleaner, bigger and stonger."

I've said Richmond are soft for years, but still it's so nice to hear that. Rarely have we been one of those things, let alone 3. Against a team been building for 7 years.

His love for Roos might balance it out a bit. But still weigh in the favour of bleeding.

I bloody love it alright Smithy. Could we have timed the 2 in a row against 2 more worthy opponents? How good is footy!

Viney was immense tonight, their midfield never stood a chance with Gawn playing imo the best game of any ruckman this year so far, and Viney playing an amazing game as well!

I can't remember seeing a mid with that sort of will and 3rd and 4th efforts in every contest, it was like watching Michael Voss play

In case anyone missed it, and apologies if already posted, but the Richmond 2's lost to Frankston. Frankston who Casey smashed by 140, Frankston who haven't won a VFL match since 2014.

They've got good depth then?

It just shows you what sort of trouble their list is in. Absolutely no depth whatsoever. They have to make a call on Hardwick this season. I'd be saying thanks very much, but we need to get a new bloke in because we want to play 2017 footy next year. They almost seem gun-shy towards sacking a coach due to their history, but ultimately I think they have to make the call.

Roos to coach the tigs?

He was asked on the footy show if he would consider an offer to coach at another club, he laughed and basically said zero chance, acknowledged that's what he said last time but he's leaving the country.

They do need someone experienced though, i wonder if the Pies or Tigers would appeal to someone like Bomber Thompson

So good they couldn't even cover the one player they had missing last night. Do they even have a best 22? How the [censored] did they even make the finals?
