Pre-match thread: NAB Challenge Game 3 - St Kilda v Melbourne

What has happened to Jake Spencer? I assume he is injured, because I really dislike the idea of running Gawn into the ground before the season even starts.

Of course, anybody with half a brain could have seen that our lack of ruck depth would be a problem at some point this year.

You leave yourself open when you make a statement like that. Get ready to ride the bumps.

I'll be tying the knot midway through the first quarter. I expect someone to kick goal of the year to celebrate....

Congratulations - hopefully to a fellow true blue Demon.

saints have their full team playing.  you look it and there are 3-4 old guns.  and i mean old.  then they have 2-3 good youngsters and maybe 2 good mid age players. they have a lot of plodders

i know I am biased but our squad is a lot better than theirs, surely?  i expect 3 wins against the saints this year

FB: Wagner  Garland  Jetta

HB: Vince   T McDonald  Salem

C: M Jones   Viney   Grimes

HF: Kent   Hogan   Kennedy

FF: Garlett  Pedersen  Watts

Foll: Gawn   Tyson  Jones

Int (from):  Oliver, Harmes, Bugg, Frost, Stretch, Hunt, Michie, Terlich, Oscar

So 3 guys will probably start off at Casey and the interchange rotations will be interesting to watch.

I like that backline.

Ok cheers.

Do you think there's a reason why the AFL have chosen not to display the interchange information on their match centre? Champion data are obviously recording it.

Not sure, but would assume they just don't allocate as many resources to NAB games.

This round gets closer to real season.  Six player bench but only 90 i/changes.

NAB 1 was about 120 i/c (on a hot day on a big oval).

NAB 2 i/c were 'closer to match conditions' (Viney interview) but don't know how many.

NAB 3 will be 90 rotations (in mild conditions).

Whether we have a 4 or 6 bench, 90 will be a good guide to our stamina.

I'm not fussed about the result  - just hope for a good work out, that we play the game out, not run out of puff and no injuries on an surface that has never been kind to us.

ps would be rapt if we also win...

Lucifer be fussed about the result every week.

ANYONE CAN LOSE...

Plantar Fasciitis?  Spencer could be out for a while then...

really? I had it years ago and it was almost instantly cured (symptom-wise) by an individually moulded instep in my shoes.  Didn't know it could be worse than that?

I had it for months sue and I tried every thing from Physio to Acupuncture and eventually the only thing that gave relief was a cortisone injection.

Hurt like hell but took about 95% of the problem away.

It flares up if I walk more than a couple kilometres not a good things for us old pricks but I cannot imagine a footballer getting it would be hell.

See injury update just posted: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-03-10/vandenberg-in-doubt-for-saints

Looks like no Dunn or Vanders and likely that Lumumba will play for Casey.  Petracca still a fair way off before playing footy of any kind......sigh...

This quote from the article made me laugh

“He [Angus] has had a good week to date running – mainly straight-line running. We expect him to do some agility and skill work on Friday and he’s definitely a chance to potentially play for Casey next weekend,” Misson said.

cortisone usually gives only a temporary relief.  If you are still having problems OD, go and see a good podiatrist and get them to have some individual orthotics made for you. It's not cheap (!) but it changed me from barely being able to walk because of the pain for a few hours after I woke up to having no problems.  After a few years I stopped wearing them and if I get the smallest flare up I just wear them for a day or two and all is well again.  You might try if you can find a generic instep device if the cost scares you, but it may require the individually moulded orthotic to work properly.

good to hear Angus should play a VFL game next weekend!

from the squad listed, with VDB, Angus and Dunn coming back we'll need to trim it by 7.  not an easy task

And this one has its charms.

'Draftees Sam Weideman, Liam Hulett and Mitch King . . . – they’ve actually had a really good pre-season most of them.'

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
