Out for a month.

Me too.   Running up Anderson St today, strained my calf.  Bugger! Reckon I'll be off legs for 4-6 and in the rehab group.  I promise there will be no frisbees for me or my dog and I wont Insagram any of my body parts if I partake of any non Asada substances or are bored.  Hope I won't miss the first game.  At least they have escalators in the Members. Go Dees.

It has been a week since I was down at Casey, and Dawes must have been very close to full training again. He posted the best time in the rehab group for 50m, but then look what has happened in the last couple of days!

Pedo was very impressive.  I think I said many have thought him to be slow around the ground or just simply not up with the play.  That was not the case with what I saw on the day.  He was playing a CHF type role and was providing link ups all around the forward line.  What stuck out was his mobility, which I haven't noticed before.  Like Gawn, he was in everything.

So while I hope Dawes gets back to playing, Pedo will be a more than capable replacement, and if he plays the way he is training, he will become first option very quickly.

Replacement? He is our CHF!

It was suggested he could retire.

I agreed. He could. He's no fool. Why , if you know you're cooked push the body into permanent damage.

You aren't going to do permanent damage with these kind of soft tissue injuries I would have thought....

Yes he looked in trouble 3 weeks ago at Maroochydore.  Chris is a great guy and very popular bloke. Disappointing that the injury is recurring and not responding to treatment. Internally the club is worried about his ability to deliver 22 rounds of footy. We need another key tall aside from Jesse H.

As Chris has shown, 12-15 games may be the target for the season. Expect Sam Frost to be groomed for the CHF role ...albeit the Weideman/Hogan combo is the goal for 2018 and beyond.

Give Dawes a break - he got shafted by Collingwood when they recruited Quinten Lynch as their second key forward / ruck (who by the way was injury prone and only played 18 games over two seasons and kicked 18 goals). He has played 44 games and kicked 43 goals and at least is still on an AFL list. He topped our goal kicking in 2014 and has filled a hole for us whilst Jesse developed and busts his guts / gives his all for us when he is out there. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can really overcome the injury and show his worth to us all during this year. Personally I'd love to see him kick one after the final siren to beat the Pies by a point on Queens Birthday!

I would much rather he kicks one after the siren that makes us beat the filth by 100 on QBD

Dawes wasn't shafted, he was told he'd have to fight for his spot, he chose not to and asked for a trade to us where he was guaranteed a game and probably more money.

Most teams pick up players that don't live up to expectations, few teams ever learn their lesson. Hope Dawes is fit by year's end, the club needs to get a decent 5th round pick for him. Sorry it is a bit early to bring out the chopping block !!!!!!

Have the feeling that if this is Dawes last year with us, it will be his last AFL season as well.

I would like to see us consider another option.

i know he kicked badly v Essendon but I thought Tom McDonald looked good on the forward line. If he played CHF the ball would be retained on the forward line. Of course Watts should be able to achieve this but he will always be peripheral. McDonald could do some ruck work on the forward line, in much the same manner as Shwarz did very successfully.

if Frost us a natural backman, isn't this worth considering?

And do remember, our best win last year occurred when both Spencer and Gawne played--and caused great grief to the Cats

Farmer, definitely our best win but do you think the cats only have Blivcas as the ruck that day may also have contributed to Spencer and big Max doing a number on them?

Surprised that Dawes said:  "I'm out of contract at the end of the year, but I'm sure that'll take care of itself,"

He sounds confident!  I truly hope the club is not thinking the same!!!

I'm not sure I could handle having him on our list, even for a 1 year base pay contract.  Even if he gets back on the park in a few months, he has a chronic injury and he keeps breaking down and I just think there are better options with our current list.

We need to build a forward line that can become a consistent, cohesive unit and a player who regular breaks down doesn't fit into that.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
