watched 10 mins of the first quarter and nearly all the last quarter.

first bit port weren't winning the ball and both sides looked super sloppy.

last bit tigers weren't winning the ball and both sides looked super sloppy.

terrible quality game.

I thought when I was watching that some people were saying mean things to other people.

Our friend Hamish could be under a little scrutiny again.

The game itself was bloody rubbish. Jack R just ran around trying to take hangers and some other Richmond bloke was trying to head butt all and sundry.

Worst game for year easily...

Was it Dustin Martin's old man?

Have Richmond considered making Dusty's Dads T shirt (see elsewhere) their new clash jumper....?

They'd sell a few to the faithful.

It was not a good sign for Hardwick who seemed to be panicking at the end after first putting up the white flag, asking for the game to be stopped early and then defiantly taking players off.

The last thing we want from practice games is injuries but they're part and parcel of the game and the coach needs to remain focused.

Hardwick panicked instead.

No contract renewal might be the real reason.

Not much sympathy for Mt Hardwick, I have strong memories of his playing days.

That was Townsend. Spent more time trying to snipe blokes and then got a taste of his own medicine and got knocked out.

He has had a fair run with the Tigers and admittedly when he start they had a very poor list but I think his days are numbered.

They have a tough draw to start the season.

If they lose too many early I think it is all over for Mr. Hardwick.

Apparently, Hardwick pulled players off the ground with nearly 10 minutes to play and played it out with only 15 players!  Few rotations left at this point.  Not good duty of care and player welfare management for the 15 left on the field.

While it may be well intentioned, he threw a match!  A match on which there was betting.  Bringing the game into disrepute fine may be coming his way?

Well, if not for throwing a match then for disobeying the AFL directive to play on, for being a poor sport and doing a hissy fit because he didn't get his way.

He may have just watched his contract renewal go down the gurgler!

So the AFL overruled what Ninthmond claimed to be a sound medical decision to play with fewer than 18 players on the field!

I wasn't watching but did Gil go down and push the injured onto the field?   Where is the AFL's commitment to player welfare.

Oh - of course.  Bookmakers will be unhappy.  Media will be unhappy.

Stuff club autonomy and player welfare.

Of course, it may just have been Hardwick playing games.

A bit like his team, he doesn't handle pressure well.

Daisy looks absolutely cooked. It's almost sad watching him now.

It was amusing seeing Hardwick talk with disdain about a "practice match" after all the BS from coaches and players about how much they want to win NAB Challenge games. He definitely cracked last night.

We go into the Super Saturday stage of NAB Challenge with two things still undecided:-

Although a much better quality game, watching Pies v Dogs makes me feel better about our apparent lack of skills last week.

Perfect conditions and easy targets being missed all day, by reliable vets too.

I think the interchange cap is just going to cause more skill errors from every side, alot more tired players.

well we never had a problem in the past generating skill errors with higher interchanger numbers

but seriously, it's way too early to make judgements. nab practice matches are not good indicators of anything

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
