True, Earl. However, they were only playing against the Huns' seconds, unfortunately. Their firsts had a lightning quick forward line ....:)

That is our weakness in a nutshell, get in our face and get physical with us. Essendon hasn't even puts its list together let alone train together. A loss here would mean the players have learnt nothing under Roos.

You're definitely not alone.

If there was a bad time to play them I reckon it's exactly when we play them. Kids and oldies will be fit and firing. Even if they have a loss in Round 1, they will be looking to bounce back the following week.

The likes of Kelly and Stokes weren't even putting up bad numbers last season. Their defence is where they will get seriously tested snd where we need to take full advantage, but I'll be relieved to walk away with the four points,

As for Ralph, he's more a Richmond fan in a suit than a journalist to me.

Look under 1981.

I believe Rupert also put some of the money up for the Irish experiment.

The veil of negativity I see is alive and well in this thread. The Club achieved it's realistic goal of 7 wins last year, the goal is to make the finals this year. The Club is aiming for significant improvement over last year. I have faith that Essendung will be beaten as a consequence of this.

Ess will be tanking hard to make sure they get pick 1.

Anything elsw they say is BS

I don't think they'll have to try too hard to get P-1.

When did we last put a side away?

In 2011 there were three occasions where we put sides away. When we were "on", we were an awesome team to watch. Just a shame that we weren't on all that often...

R4 defeated GCS by 90

R7 defeated Adelaide by 96

R13 defeated Fremantle by 89

The best wins in the past few years were last year's v Dogs and Cats - very satisfying but hardly putting them away.

Remind me.  Was that year 1 of "the good stuff"?   Beware - they have a new pharmacist in charge this year.

Year 1 of "the good stuff" was the year of this game:

Essendon were 8-1, we were 0-9, and we started their fall which eventually saw them miss out on playing finals.

You know your drugs are bad when you lose to the 2012 Demons.

This could be the year when we prove a lot of people wrong and after the past decade of agony watching us play, by God it will be sweet.

Essendon will be lucky to win 3 games for the season. There will be distractions galore with law suits and players thinking of leaving. Eg hooker free agent. They have picked up players that not one of the 18 teams wanted even on their rookie list and suddenly they'll be good? Seriously. Why would these guys give a rats. It's just a pay check for kelly, stokes etc.

i hope the Dons and Carlton stay on the bottom for years.

Was listening to the Run Home on SEN last night and Jon Ralph and the boys were talking about the possible make up of the final 8 this year.

Ralph mentioned 3 teams that simply will not play finals this year - Carlton, Brisbane, and Melbourne. He then went on to mention that while he gives the Dons a slight chance, he said they'll probably miss out in the end.

So basically he rates us lower than a side that will be missing 10 of their best 22 all season.

Please prove him wrong, Dees!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
