The Age is reporting the The Prince was detained for 4 days in the Congo but has now arrived safe back in OZ due to some mix up with his visa. He was there for a wedding. I assumed he was training at the camp, seems not. Apparently all is well.

Mustn't have paid the obligatory fee to the immigration officials to ensure smooth passage.

This is confusing (at least to me) - there's a pic of Lumumba doing leg strengthening exercises at the camp on Sunday 17th on the MFC website and he's now arrived home 4 days late from the Congo on the 26th. Hardly seems time for a return trip to Africa with a wedding thrown in.

Nothing surprises me anymore Earl. I reported in another thread that I fear the world is passing me by. Perhaps the Prince was undergoing his personal training regime in an environment that is even more testing than the beaches of Queensland.

What a nothing story. He didn't do anything wrong, the club didn't do anything wrong, and nothing bad happened. A classic example of the media trying to make something out of absolutely nothing.

Also for the record: He wasn't "detained" in the DRC, he was denied entry while a visa misunderstanding was resolved. Very different things.

Not having a go at the OP but this isn't even threadworthy. He did something that happens everyday and i am sure most of us have had Visa mishaps or passport complications. Typical scum media who have nothing better then to dramatize a very small issue.

What annoys me even more and why i have a pure hatred for media is that this also opens up unnecessary criticism on Lumumba on social media because of his past.

The Age are a sick joke.

comomn, GTG,  don't let the facts spoil a very entertaining fantasy thread .

No he wasn't detained, but why was he there anyway?

The guy has come off a woeful season, is miles behind in his preparation for 2016 due to surgery and he buggers off to Africa in the middle of the pre season.

Does he want to be a professional athlete or not? If yes (and particularly given his salary), then he should be putting in the extra yards to get fit, not going on holidays.

He was going to a wedding....sheesh.  He wouldnt have been training at full gallop anyway.

Before you make yourself look like an absolute fool did you bother to read the article and find out the facts before sinking the boots? Obviously not..

H was over there during the OFF SEASON for a wedding with his family and missed 4 days into the new season. Club has absolutely no problem with it and for your information Lumumba has been doing a mountain of work off the field in trying to get his body right. He has already identified that his 2015 was not good enough and is now working hard to prove himself.

Why was he there? Is that a serious question?

Players are routinely given time off to attend weddings and other key life events.

Or do you think Lumumba should be punished for his poor form last year?

FFS.

Having worked a lot in DRC in 2015 and catching malaria and god knows what other mysterious bugs - I'm not sure I would call DRC a holiday destination. And if you attempt to pass customs without $$$ or a protocol officer - you are bat s**t crazy !!!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
