Watched  both  the  development  and  senior  games  and  there  was  a  player  I  liked  for  Casey.  Can  anybody  tell  me  anything  about  no.  25  McInerney.  He  was  the  ruckman  in  the  dev.  game  and  played  well.  A  big  lump  of  a  bloke  who  didn't  mind  getting  down  when  the  ball  didn't  clear  the  centre  pack.

His  ruckwork  was  good  and  he  hit  to  advantage  a lot.

Comes from Montrose EDFL. Only young but goes alright. Not enough meat on his bones . Has a twin brother who is about half his height.

Unless Hunt is injured, I think we will see him debut next week with Oliver. If he wasn't in calculations and is uninjured, he would have played today.

He certainly has the pace we need off half back and HL might not have done enough yet.

Redleg, just the normal sheep who haven't seen Hunt play an awful lot writing him off before he has fired a shot in anger, saw him play a couple of junior games and at Casey he has promise, has had a terrible run with injury  reckon Footy Dept gave him this year to see what is there when fit  if his best is not good enough we all know the end result

I understand Hunt didn't play on the weekend, but surely it's got nothing to with the fact that the coaches have already locked him in for round 1 as some are suggesting?

I find that incredibly hard to believe.

Unless the coaching group have a specific run-with/shut-down role they want him to play..

But he certainly didn't get enough ball during NAB to put his speed/run and carry on show.

Who's writing him off? The "sheep" are just saying that it's highly improbable that he'll play round 1 based on his NAB Cup performance. And the "sheep" were factually refuting Redleg's claim that he must be a lock for round 1 because he didn't play for Casey yesterday.

Red you can have all the pace in the world, you still need to get the pill and dispose of it properly. Not saying he is or isn't up for it as I have seen very little of him to this point, just the blank pace description doesn't determine it.

It's interesting you say that WJ - in years gone by I would agree, yet if the club is a sniff of finals going in to the last few rounds then he might just have to wait until 2017 to get those couple of games.  It would be nice to see that happen for the first time in almost a decade.

I'm hoping we see him (Weideman) in the first half of this season, neither Dawes or Pedersen fill me with any confidence nor Frost as a forward for that matter.

The sooner Weideman gets the chance to step up and develop his craft at AFL level, having earned his place by the way, the better off we will be.

Don't see my statement as saying he was a " lock" for round 1.

Regardless how impressive Hunt has previously looked in the VFL. He didn't look up to AFL standard. I would be surprised if he started for round 1.

So would I but then again we don't pick the team, although a few on here seem to think they do      re the AFL standard   type that into sesrch on here and take note of some who were previously said not to be    Nev Jetta springs to mind straightaway

Hunt did not play because he played the last three weeks.

Just needed a week off like the other players.

Nothing to read into it.

I think Wagner took his place in the Saints match.

I can't see Hunt or Wagner playing, i would bring Lumumba in to play that role

If Oscar Mc Gets a game in front of Lynden Dunn then I'll turn to the dark Side ( Essendope) for some sanity!

I will lose my [censored] if Omac gets a game ahead of Dunn. He is the general of our backline where as Omac is turnover merchant with a skinny frame.

Didn't realize he was ineligible to play for Casey yesterday. Probably wrong then on my hunch.

Disagree with your last sentence.

We are slow off the half back line and he has pace. The only one I can think of with real pace other than him, in that area of the ground, is HL. I don't think Salem is overly quick and am not even sure he will stay on the half back line long term.

You are right but it seems Vince is going to be more involved off half-back and I just think going into round 1 he is an awful long way off playing and would be in the mid-30s on the list of players in line for a round 1 game.  Obviously that can change quickly and not writing him off as a footballer.  Just think the club will play a lot of players ahead of him in the short-term on the evidence of his two NAB games and that they didn't play him NAB3.

Easy on Redleg guys, he just had a hunch. But I believe as Roger said after playing 3 games he wasn't illegible (or needing) to play today.

By the way, I don't think he's that far from the best 22 even if he didn't do a lot in the first 2 games. He's got a lot to learn but he's still a speedy half back which isn't a position there's a lot of competition for. I think Goodwin rates him and has a good relationship with him. Let's see how he goes in his next game (which is likely to be at Casey)

Don't think Redleg will be fazed by some discussion about his opinion - he's a Demonland warrior and comments were not in any way intended to be an attack in any case.

I have seen Hunt play and he hasn't has shown anything to suggest he will make it.

Don't take it personally, because he is not your son, brother, cousin etc.. Its my opinion of him as a footballer. Im sure he is a good kid.

I know its all fun and games but seriously I wonder whether some of the Demonland posters are on a parallel universe or are taking strong medication.

Hunt is a million miles from playing senior football he has not even played good consistent footy at Casey.  I've even seen people suggesting Oscar Mac & Hulett are champions where in fact they have yet to establish themselves in the Casey firsts.

Yea good call, was think he Ess fella who then became an Ump. They raved about his pace, couldn't play the game. (Not suggesting Hunt is either of the 2).

I was wondering if Harmes was the player redders was thinking of ?

But as I haven't seen any of them play,  these younger kids,  I can't say much.   Only going on what I read atmo.

I can't drive at the moment to get anywhere,  I've done a head gasket on the motor,  so housebound,  & getting frustrated.  I'll get to it this week,  maybe intime maybe for a Casey game?

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
